The role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented Music Graduate Assistant to join our thriving Music Department. 

This is a busy and varied role and will involve providing support to the Director of Music in a range of ways, including but not limited to:

  • Stewarding music examinations
  • Playing a vital role in concert days; to include programming, stage management; facilitating sound and lighting
  • Supporting the Junior and Senior orchestras by setting up and disassembling the orchestral formation 
  • Supervising and chaperoning on trips and music tours
  • Supporting the Drama department with technical aspects of productions and music

You will need excellent interpersonal, administrative and organisational skills, with a flexible approach, demonstrating the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. You will have a good level of musicianship coupled with a working knowledge of different musical genres and the ability to support small ensembles.

The Music Department

Music is a popular and successful subject at Blackheath High School. We firmly believe all our lessons should be inclusive and the breadth of curriculum allows students to experience musical genres such as Gamelan, West African Drumming, Rap, Pop Music and a variety of Western Classical Music.

Blackheath High Junior School delivers an all-round education: academic excellence within a balanced education for every girl at every stage. Within a safe, caring environment, girls develop the confidence to seize fresh opportunities and try new experiences.

The School enjoys a strong academic reputation. In 2023 the A level results were outstanding, with 72% of grades awarded A*-B, and GCSE results were similarly strong, with 74% of grades awarded 7-9. A dedicated and highly experienced group of staff provides expert advice to students who are applying to the University of Oxford or University of Cambridge, and to competitive courses such as Medicine, Veterinary Science and Dentistry. The vast majority of leavers secure places at Russell Group Universities each year.
