Job overview

Music Teacher

Dollar Academy is looking to recruit a Specialist Music Teacher (on a temporary basis) for one or two terms, from January 2019.

The Department has a reputation for nourishing musical talent and has become synonymous with opportunity and excellence.

Dollar Academy is situated at the foot of the Ochil Hills in the picturesque country town of Dollar within easy reach of Scotland’s major cities:  only 20 minutes by car from Stirling, 30 minutes from Perth and less than an hour from the cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh. One of Scotland’s largest and best-performing schools, Dollar Academy prides itself in providing an education that meets the highest standards.  Dollar is a day and boarding school for boys and girls aged five to eighteen.  The focus is very much on encouraging the talents, interests and ambitions of all pupils in a positive and supportive environment.  Dollar has an excellent academic reputation, but activities out of class time are considered to be highly significant in the development of young people.

We are seeking to appoint a temporary, full-time, enthusiastic and suitably qualified teacher of Music starting in January 2019. The successful candidate will be a talented and imaginative teacher who should be able to teach music to pupils of all ages, from Prep 1 to Senior School level. He/she will take part in a diverse co-curricular programme, which supports and extends work in the classroom.  The Department has an excellent reputation for nourishing musical talent and for the quality and diversity of music created through five choirs, four orchestras, three jazz orchestras, chamber and traditional music groups, and Junior and Senior stage musicals. Curricular music is taught by six specialist staff. There are nineteen visiting instrumental teachers, a Music Technician and a part-time Music Administrator.

The salary for the post will be in accordance with the SNCT main grade scale with the Dollar enhancement of 10% in addition. It should be noted that the Chartered Teachers pay scale does not apply to teachers employed by the Academy.

Candidates should either be registered with the GTC Scotland, or eligible for registration.

Applicants must provide a covering letter and complete the Academy’s Teaching Staff Application Form; the form, together with further details about the post, are available on the Academy’s website.  A CV is optional.

These should be emailed to: recruitment@dollaracademy.org.uk

The closing date is Wednesday 5th December 2018.

All appointments are subject to receipt of a satisfactory PVG Scheme Record or Scheme  Record Update from Disclosure Scotland.

Edinburgh airport is conveniently situated and can be reached in 45 minutes.

Dollar is distinguished by its excellence in pastoral care, co-curricular provision and classroom teaching.

Enjoyment of learning lies at the heart of this school and the aim is for all pupils to gain satisfaction from a real commitment to study and participation in the great range of sporting, art and cultural activities on offer.
