We are looking for non-teaching Heads of Year (Years 7 to 11) to join our St Anne’s School Family. This is an exciting time to be joining us as although we are small in size we have big plans for our future.

Following a restructure in late 2020, the Pastoral Team has been completely redesigned.  Led by the Assistant Headteacher for Personal Development, Behaviour and Welfare, there is now a need for five clear roles for non-teaching staff, appropriately supported by the Senior Pastoral Manager and Safeguarding Lead and three Directors of Learning.  A non-teaching Head of Year will be one of the most visible roles within St Anne’s. They will take responsibility for one year group each, leading that year group and being the first point of contact for their students.

As these are newly created roles, you will have the opportunity to help shape the vision for student support within the context of our school.

Your job will be to lead a designated year group of students, taking responsibility for ensuring high quality pastoral support, high levels of attendance and promoting the highest standards of behaviour thus supporting curriculum and pastoral initiatives to ensure that every student will thrive and succeed.  You will address attendance, behaviour, pastoral and welfare issues, taking the lead role within school to address the needs of students who require particular help to overcome barriers to learning.  You will develop, lead and deliver creative weekly assemblies for the year group in line with school ethos, current affairs, year group initiatives and the School Improvement Plan.

A non-teaching Head of Year will be a highly-visible member of the school community across all departments, establishing and maintaining positive relationships with pupils, parents/carers, staff and external agencies, ensuring collaborative working to improve outcomes for students.  You will lead and constructively challenge a small team of form tutors in order to achieve a high standard of consistency during form time which support students in an effective and purposeful manner

This is a rare opportunity to have a substantial and sustained impact on the lives of young people. Our recent OFSTED report is an accurate reflection of where the school was. We do not shy away from the challenges facing us, nor will the right candidate for the post.

The successful candidate will be…

• Someone who fully embraces our Catholic Ethos

• An experienced pastoral leader, ex-teacher, or social worker who is looking to share and develop their own area of expertise

• Passionate about working with young people and their families.

• Someone who is able to lead by example

• Someone who is comfortable in providing professional challenge to other members of staff

• Someone who is a creative problem solver with a ‘can do’ attitude

• Someone who thrives in a busy, unpredictable, working environment

In return, we can offer you

• The opportunity to shape this brand new role

• A senior leadership Team who values the unique insight, knowledge and experience of pastoral staff

• A small, hardworking and exceptionally friendly staff who are open and excited for change

An application pack can be obtained from Sue Swire, PA to the Headteacher, by emailing

Closing date: Friday 12th March 2021 at 10.00am

We aim for short listing to take place on the afternoon of 12th March with interviews taking place w/c 15th March.  Interviews may be conducted via video link and/or adhering to social distancing regulations.
