Job overview
Primary Behavioural Teaching Assistant
Contract Type – Permanent and Term Time only (32.5 hours per week)
Salary – Scale 3, Spine Point 5 - 6 (£18,189 - £19,888)
Required for September 2022.
We are looking for a dedicated, highly adaptable, experienced and energetic practitioner to work with pupils with Social, Emotional and Behavioural difficulties.
We form part of the Waterside Provision which includes our main SEMH site, Nest ( an assessment based provision) as well as Nurture and ASD provisions. We are a hands on Service that support mainstream schools in dealing with challenging and difficult behaviour – we provide expert support in helping pupils get back on track. We assist teachers with the process of changing a child’s behaviour and giving professional advice.
You may be liaising with headteachers and senior school colleagues to refine strategies to enable a child to engage more successfully. As well as being a professional resource, we also help to deliver Inset around positive behaviour management.
As a behavioural assistant, you will have the chance to use your skills in a brand new way, stretching your talents and supporting the children that need help the most.
Day-to-day, you will model good classroom practice and teach pupils either 1:1, in small groups or in whole class situations. You will also consult with other agencies to ensure schools receive the maximum support and practice .
It’s a hugely exciting opportunity to be part of a team whose work really can make a major difference.
You will need to co-operate with other key professionals, engage with parents, be tenacious, understanding and empathetic. You will need to hold a clean and valid driver’s license and have access to a car (a car user allowance is payable).
We are committed to your professional development and offer a comprehensive CPD programme to ensure you are at the forefront of developments within the SEN and wider education sectors.
Visits welcomed and encouraged, so please make an appointment with Neal Collard, Head of School.
Closing Date: Friday 1 July 2022
Interview Date: Week beginning 4 July 2022
Waterside School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all pupils attending the school. As the duties of this post involve regular contact with children, any offer to the successful candidate will be conditional upon an enhanced disclosure being obtained via the Disclosure and Barring Service as well as references from your current employer.

About Waterside School
Waterside is a Social Emotional and Behavioural Special Primary School (SEBD) , that aims to offer each and every super hero an opportunity to develop their talents and interests, celebrate their communities and ensure that they have the skills necessary to embrace the world and succeed.
There are three distinct sections to Waterside – Outreach, Nest and the School.
OutreachWe have a highly experienced team who, following a referral from one of our partner schools within the borough, will support both the pupil and school in dealing with any difficulties they may have.
Our team help with the following:
• behaviour management
• combating disaffection
• SEN, SEBD
• learning efficiency and behaviour policy
• classroom management and behavioural management analysis
• INSET
• staff support
• NQT training
• Restraint/Handling training
This work is closely monitored and we hope that this short term intervention will support the pupil and their school.
Nest Provision
Sometimes schools may exclude a pupil due to their behaviour. We understand that this is distressing for the pupil, their family and the school, but we work with all parties to ensure that the pupil is prepared and able to return to their school.
WatersideSometimes, after all the interventions have been put in place, mainstream primary school just does not work for that pupil. In that case, and following a statement of educational need, they may be admitted to the main school.
We aim to provide quality learning experiences for our children - learning which is structured, balanced and relevant to the child. We aim to provide a safe and secure environment in which your child feels happy, confident and stimulated to learn whilst having fun.
