Job overview
Wanted: PART-TIME AFTERSCHOOL TEACHER & CLUB LEADER for practical, fun maths club - BrainBuilders
Do you have classroom experience? Do you love teaching primary school children but don't have time for the demands of lesson planning, school admin and emails? Do you want an opportunity for flexible working?
Come join our wonderful team of teachers at BrainBuilders! BrainBuilders runs fun, after-school, hands-on Maths clubs in independent schools across Southwest London. The joy of leading a BrainBuilders club means you get the enjoyment and fulfilment of working creatively with children without the admin of being in a school. All lessons come fully planned with all the resources completed so club teachers can pick up and go. We handle the admin with schools so our teachers can just focus on what they love most- teaching! We have a great opportunity for anyone with a passion for teaching and classroom experience, as we’re expanding and looking for club teachers to join our team. You don’t need to be a maths whizz- just someone who wants to have fun with children, bolstering their understanding for a subject that is often misunderstood. Our teachers are current and previous teachers or teaching assistants who specialise in anything from Drama, History, English to Maths. At BrainBuilders, we want all children to have fun with maths! Our sessions are all maths-based but all linked to other subjects– for example, maths and art, maths and PE, maths and cooking – to name a few. Our focus is on consolidating classroom learning in practical ways to help put maths learning into practise– not about teaching new skills.
BrainBuilders was set up by experienced teachers and school leaders who know the importance of hands-on learning in providing deeper understanding and engaging children. Because we are teachers, we also know how all-consuming the job can be and therefore we wanted to create a more flexible work environment for all those who love the profession, but want a better work-life balance. We also wanted to create an environment where children could have fun with maths- get messy, get active and make it practical! Club sessions run for 1 hour after school. Pay is generous.
You will:
Have classroom experience
Believe that all children can have fun and achieve in maths
Have experience following lesson plans and adapting in a flexible manner as best suits your group of children
Be patient, compassionate and enjoy teachingBe reliable and punctual
Why work for BrainBuilders:
To enjoy the best bits about teaching, without the admin of lesson planning, marking and resource prep
To enjoy flexibility in your schedule
To keep working as a teacher with flexible working hours- work from 1-3 clubs per week, leaving you time to enjoy other facets of your life
To stay up-to-date with curriculum, school life and safeguarding while taking a break from full-time teaching
To be a part of team that is committed to making maths fun
Here’s what some of the children in our clubs have to say:
"I usually find maths boring but BrainBuilders gave me a new attitude for maths." Molly, Year 5 "I like EVERYTHING about BrainBuilders!" Sophia, Year 6
"We can have fun and do maths at the same time - a work of genius!" Matilda, Year 6 "I never thought you could do cooking and art with maths - but you can! And it's really fun. It doesn't feel like you are doing work." Holly, Year 3
How to apply: Complete the online application form by 6th April
BrainBuilders is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. All successful candidates will be requested to currently have or undertake an Enhanced DBS check and attend safeguarding training.
