Job overview

Part-time Music Teacher

Fixed-term 1st September to 31st December 2021

We are seeking to appoint a high-quality individual to join our Music Department for the first term of the 2021-22 academic year.

Music is absolutely central to the life of our school, which was founded in the 12th century to educate the Choristers of Exeter Cathedral. We are a musically-alive school and we are looking for a high-calibre musician who possesses energy, enthusiasm, and a genuine ability to inspire our pupils in the classroom and in their music-making.

If appointed, you will be joining a friendly, motivated and dedicated group of staff, all of whom contribute significantly to the success of our 3-13 co-educational school.

It is envisaged that this will be a fixed term post from 1st September to 31st December, though the ability to offer some flexibility into 2022 may be an advantage.

A job description and person specification are available. Further information about the appointment process and requirements can be obtained from the Support Staff Services Administrator Mrs Rosie Hankin: r.hankin@exetercs.org. Information about the School can be found at www.exetercathedralschool.co.uk.

The deadline for applications is 12 noon on 24/06/2021.  Interviews for shortlisted candidates are likely to take place during the week beginning 28/06/2021.  Early applications are encouraged: the School reserves the right to interview and appoint at any time.

Exeter Cathedral School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all employees to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Exeter Cathedral School is a flourishing independent day and boarding Prep School for girls and boys aged 3-13.

Founded in the 12th century as a choir school, Exeter Cathedral School now educates approximately 280 pupils. 36 of these are the boy and girl Choristers of Exeter Cathedral, who continue the centuries-old routine of leading the daily sung worship in the Cathedral.

Nowadays, we offer a fully-rounded Prep School education to pupils from a variety of backgrounds and with a range of talents and interests, whether they be sporting, academic, artistic or musical.

We have an enviable location (right in the heart of the city and yet nestled safely in the lee of the Cathedral), a maximum class size of 18 (allowing us to get know each and every pupil as an individual), a proven track record of securing places and scholarships to a range of leading senior schools, and a firm commitment to being a forward-thinking Prep School with traditional values.

Above all, we are a school where people matter, and where staff and families work in partnership to help children acquire the right habits for life.
