Job overview

Nerrols Primary School and Nursery is looking to recruit a dedicated, motivated and enthusiastic PE and Sport Leader to develop, lead and take responsibility for implementing an engaging and innovative Physical Education offer. The successful candidate will possess the relevant experience and qualifications and act as a role model for developing children's attitudes towards, and engagement in, physical activity and a healthy lifestyle. We are looking for someone who:

  • Can plan and deliver high-quality and engaging Physical Education and Sport lessons as part of our children's broad and balanced curriculum right across the primary-age phase (including Nursery-aged children) during teachers' planning, preparation and assessment (PPA) time.
  • Can plan and deliver a range of targeted support sessions aimed at improving children’s physical development and outdoor learning, such as co-ordination, forest school and swimming.
  • Will assume the role of the School’s ‘Play Leader’ to support and facilitate meaningful, enjoyable, and appropriate child-initiated play during playtimes by leading, developing, and organising colleagues in the delivery of a well-planned and exciting play offer (please see accompanying Job Description).
  • Takes responsibility for leading, planning and delivering the School’s extra-curricular offer through a range of exciting after school clubs.
  • Has the flexibility and willingness to attend local sporting fixtures and tournaments that the children of Nerrols are involved in.
  • Takes responsibility as the School’s Curriculum Leader for Physical Education and Sport.
  • Will work alongside the headteacher to plan, lead, deliver and manage the development of the School’s Holiday Clubs – a new arrangement from 2024/25.

In the first year, it is expected that the successful candidate will be required to teach PE and Sport lessons for the equivalent of approximately 3 days per week with the remaining time dedicated to other responsibilities (some of which are listed above). As the School grows, it is anticipated that the amount of teaching required will increase to meet the demands of the School and Nursery.

We are looking for someone to join our team with experience of a relevant nature in PE and Sport and preferably having already worked with children and young people. Teaching and/or coaching qualifications in a range of sports is also desirable. Having good communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal, are essential.

We can offer you:

·        A caring, supportive and energetic team.
