Job overview

Peripatetic LAMDA Drama Teacher

THE POST

We are looking to recruit a peripatetic LAMDA teacher for grade 3 and above. We teach students in Year 7 and above to take both Monologue and Duologue Acting exams, by receiving a 30 minute lesson per week. The ideal candidate will have past experience of teaching LAMDA to this level and be confident with the LAMDA syllabus. The post arises from the growing number of pupils who wish to take LAMDA exams. We are currently looking for someone to teach 30 minute lessons on Thursdays and Fridays in term time. The students are taken out of timetabled academic lessons to attend these sessions, and as such, there may be some flexibility in the hours that we can offer between the hours of 9am-4pm. The exact number of teaching periods for the academic year 2019-20 will be agreed following a sign-up process for the pupils, as the lessons continue to grow in popularity each year.

We anticipate the role starting in mid-October but an earlier start in September could be possible.

All staff are in a position of trust and have a duty to keep children and young people safe and to protect them from neglect and physical and emotional harm.  This duty is in part exercised through the development of respectful caring and professional relationships between staff, children, and young people. Staff are expected to be familiar with the local child protection arrangements and understand their responsibilities in order to safeguard and protect children and young people.

King Edward’s School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and applicants must be willing to undergo safeguarding screening including checks with past employers and a DBS disclosure in accordance with the DBS Code of Conduct. All appointments are made subject to satisfactory DBS clearance.   The suitability of all prospective employees or volunteers will be assessed during the recruitment process in line with this commitment.

Applications should be made in writing to the School’s HR Department at kesadmin@kesbath.com , using the supplied application form and with a letter of application outlining the applicant’s suitability for the post.

Applications should be received by 9 am on Wednesday 21st August, 2019. Interviews will be in the week of 9th September.

Welcome

King Edward’s School was founded in 1552 and takes great pride in its long history as Bath’s oldest school. KES has held a special place in this wonderful city for well over four and a half centuries and is now firmly established as one of the leading schools in the South West of England.

As the city’s former grammar school, KES has a very healthy tradition of nurturing academic excellence and ambition, reflected these days in the School’s consistently outstanding results. Our pupils are bright, inquisitive, and aspirational, but they also have their feet firmly on the ground and understand that individual excellence shines most brightly in the service of the collective team effort.

“KES remains at the top of the academic pops in Bath and beyond.” The Good Schools Guide 2021

The ethos of the School is one that encourages all pupils to play as hard as they work and to make the most of all the wonderful opportunities here, both in and out of the classroom, that enable them to grow and thrive within a supportive and caring framework. We set the bar high, but we also give our pupils all the tools that they need to reach those ambitious standards. We aim to foster talent in all its forms and to open doors to enquiry and discovery. Independent-mindedness and creative spirit are strong suits, but so too is the sense of community that seeks to respect and value all its members.

“KES turns out young people who are not merely hard-working and well-educated, but compassionate and thoughtful to book.” The Good Schools Guide 2021

As a family of three schools, the Pre-Prep, Junior and Senior sections of King Edward's offer an inspiring and supportive environment for children age 3 to 18. Some join us just for the sixth form, many stay for their entire school career. All pupils are encouraged to be the best they can be and all are nurtured along the pathway to leading happy, fulfilled and successful lives at school and beyond.
