"The aim of education should be to convert the mind into a living fountain, and not a reservoir." — John Mason
This is certainly the ambition of the Mathematics department at Cheadle Hulme High School. The passion for mathematics and teaching is the common denominator and driving force in the team. Our students enjoy mathematics and the challenges it offers. Staff development is highly valued and structured professional learning, opportunities to research and keep abreast of the latest developments in research and pedagogy are provided. There are also opportunities for colleagues to continue to develop their own subject knowledge through TAM and TFM to teach A level mathematics and further maths as well as to engage with Masters degrees and EdD programmes.
Cheadle Hulme High School is a hugely oversubscribed school with a reputation locally, and further afield for outstanding teaching and learning through the relentless pursuit of excellence and determination to ensure that every child succeeds.
In the list of secondary state schools, CHHS is in the top 20 non-denominational comprehensive schools nationally. This is a fantastic achievement for students and staff and particularly for the Sixth Form, celebrating only its third set of A level results. Maths is the most popular A level in the school with over half the sixth form doing level 3 mathematics and two further maths classes.
We were judged Outstanding in every single category by Ofsted in 2011 and 2015. The 2017 results for CHHS put us in the top 3% of schools nationally (based on the 'Progress 8' performance measure), which is the highest rating in Stockport and shows CHHS outperforming many schools throughout the Greater Manchester region.
A training school for thirteen years and a Teaching School for a further five, CHHS is home to the Altius Alliance centre of excellence providing School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) for teachers of students aged 11-16, judged Outstanding in 2017.
CHHS is the founder school of the Laurus Trust, a new multi-academy trust in the North-West of England. The vision of the Trust is for everyone regardless of background or circumstance to be inspired, to thrive in all environments, to recognise what it takes to succeed, to set aspirational goals and work hard to achieve them. Our recent launch featured on national television and received extensive press coverage.
If you want to work in a highly ambitious and successful school, and have the passion and commitment to join us at an exciting time for learning and development as we expand and open new schools in theTrust, then we would like to hear from you.
