Job overview
Primary Teacher Job Description:
We are a small independent school for 2-16 years in the heart of the countryside, yet minutes from Oxford. We are a progressive, creative school with a Montessori ethos. We aim to deliver a tailored curriculum with the children's needs and interests at the heart of all we do.
Oxford Montessori Schools is situated in extensive grounds, allowing for many outdoor activities and a natural outdoor classroom. We have a school minibus for trips and excursions, all of which are actively encouraged. There is an extensive range of Montessori materials to aid hands on learning.
Our Primary department is divided into three mixed age classes. (Each class comprises around two year groups). We aim to have class numbers of 15-18 children with a classroom TA.
We are looking for a creative person who teaches outside the box and loves the outdoors and can deliver a rich exciting program. Primary One is especially designed to build on the child’s skills and knowledge from nursery, making learning fun and focusing on developing basic skills so children are ready for the next steps and independent learning.
We generally follow the National Curriculum in the core subjects but tailor it to each child’s learning style and needs through cultural and creative activities and project work encompassing History, Geography, PSHE, Art and Design and Technology. Specialist teachers come in to teach Drama, Music, Spanish, Computing, P.E and Forest Schools.
Duties to include:
taking responsibility for the progress of a class of primary-age pupils;
Maintaining a strong regard for safeguarding children and implement all aspects of our policy
organising the classroom and learning resources and creating displays to encourage a positive learning environment;
planning, preparing and presenting lessons that cater for the needs of the whole ability range within the class;
meeting with other professionals such as education welfare officers and educational psychologists, if required.
meeting requirements for the assessment and recording of pupils' development;
providing feedback to parents and carers on a pupil's progress at parents' evenings and other meetings;
coordinating activities and resources within a specific area of the curriculum, and supporting colleagues in the delivery of this specialist area;
working with other members of the Primary schools team and wider schools management to plan and coordinate work;
keeping up to date with changes and developments in the structure of the curriculum;
organising and taking part in school events, outings and activities which may take place at weekends or in the evening;
liaising positively with colleagues and working flexibly;
Working alongside and supporting the class TA (when numbers justify) and other teachers, including the SENCO in the school.
Maintaining a strong regard for safeguarding children and adhere to all policies
Observing our equal opportunities policy
Attending professional development training in and out of school hours when necessary.
Requirements:
QTS, PGCE or equivalent
Good command of English - both spoken and written
Good early language and literacy skills
The Montessori Diploma would be an advantage but not essential
A genuine interest in the outdoors
Own transport as there is no public transport to the school
To start: September 2019
Starting salary start on the main salary scale, competitive, dependent on qualifications and experience.
Hours during term time: Normally 8-4pm excluding staff and parent appointments and events such as teacher parent meetings and school events/trips etc.
