The Location

Doha is the capital city and central focus of Qatar. The city has a large proportion of expats and as a result is extremely diverse.

Qatar offers a warm, sunny climate throughout the year.

Expats can visit the souqs for spices and traditional clothing, enjoy local food and drinks in the streets. There are various modern malls throughout the city.
There are also many modern areas in Doha to visit in the evenings including international restaurants offering excellent food.

The Package

The school is a six form entry school with 24 classes of 22 pupils per class. The classes are housed in two blocks, each containing twelve classrooms and an ICT suite. The school day begins at 06:45 and ends at 1:10. We have a weekly CPD meeting and all staff volunteer for a one hour extra-curricular activity each week. Our CPD programme is designed and delivered by our excellent teaching staff and delivers high quality, relevant training. Each year group plans together with teachers sharing the planning and resourcing of lessons, as a result, individual planning time is greatly reduced. The children benefit from being taught by specialist teachers for Arabic, Islamic, French, P.E. and ICT. As a result, teachers enjoy approximately eight hours non-contact time per week, which allows for quality Planning, Preparation and Administration time (gone are the days of walking out of school carrying an armful of books to mark).

Our year-group teams are almost exclusively British staff, but we also have some international colleagues, which enhances the truly international flavour of the school. The teams not only work closely together, but tend to live in close proximity to each other (our accommodation is of a very high standard) and socialise together. This makes for a fantastic sense of camaraderie throughout the school and creates strong and lasting friendships. Our pupils are mainly English-speaking Arabic children who are an absolute pleasure to teach. Hardworking (in the main) courteous and polite, they are a credit to both their parents and the school.

Working at QIS not only allows you the time and space to work to a very high standard of professionalism, but equally as important, allows for a work-life balance which most teachers can only dream of.

  • Teaching salary paid in Qatari Riyals.
  • This equates to a yearly tax-free salary dependent on exchange rate and teaching experience.
  • Furnished accommodation and utilities allowances included.
  • Transport allowance and benefits including excellent private health cover.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must be UK qualified teachers with a relevant teaching qualification including QTS. Experience of teaching a British curriculum is essential including a proven track record of supporting students. The school can consider applications from strong Newly Qualified Teachers.

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. Interviews will be held immediately via Skype.

The successful candidate will join a stable and supportive staff and be responsible for planning high quality provision, showing independence and collaboration in equal measure. In addition to teams of 6 teaching staff and one intervention Teaching Assistant in each KS2 year group, there are also more than 50 teaching staff and 24 Teaching Assistants across the whole of the primary school. This is a team of supportive, dedicated professionals who work tirelessly to optimise the learning experience for our 1000 Primary pupils.
In addition, the school has a strong and increasing commitment to ensuring the highest quality CPD in order to ensure candidates maintain their links to the UK curricular demands.

About Qatar International School

Qatar International School is a British International private school located in Doha, the capital city of the State of Qatar. The school follows the latest National Curriculum of England and Wales for students ranging between 3 and 18 years of age.

The school is led and managed by British professionals and it strives to maintain the highest standards of the current British education system, whilst also supporting its Arabic culture and international context.

Our long and illustrious history traces its roots back over 40 years to 1977, making us one the oldest British schools in Qatar. Since then, we have changed and grown significantly- including a move to our current location in 2001. A purpose-built campus in the Diplomatic Quarter of Dafna, close to the skyscrapers and business centre of West Bay. The school continues to thrive – expanding and developing its excellent specialist facilities. These include science laboratories, ICT suites, a swimming pool, playing fields, and large sports halls. Indeed, from very small beginnings over 40 years ago, QIS has now grown into one of the largest and most prestigious schools in the country, with more than 2,100 students on role.

In 2015, the school received the highest possible grading from the Qatar National Schools Accreditation programme, when inspected by the country’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education.

Then, in 2020, QIS achieved two highly prestigious international accreditations:

Firstly, QIS was judged to be ‘outstanding’ in every category of the UK government’s British School Overseas (BSO) inspection framework – only the third school, at the time, in the world ever to have achieved this.

Secondly, in the same year, QIS became the first school in the world to be awarded Council for International Schools (CIS) accreditation by a new fast-track process for outstanding schools. The final CIS report included over 100 individual commendations and helps to make us one of the most highly regarded educational establishments in the region.

Our latest British School Overseas inspection in 2023 was again judged to be “outstanding” in every category.

QIS is also the only school in the Middle East accredited to deliver OLEVI training courses straight from the UK, such as The Outstanding Teacher’s Programme. The school also partners with many other world-renowned training providers to ensure cutting-edge best practice. We are proud to say that quality training for staff is part of the QIS culture.Under the leadership of our Executive Principal, Deane Baker (who joined us in September 2013), we have achieved various national and international accreditations at the highest levels. We hold numerous high achievement awards for our international examination success.

Education is highly valued in Qatar. This means our school enjoys working with extremely supportive parents and wonderfully enthusiastic, highly motivated students.

Children are taught in Key Stages from KS1 through to KS5 and examinations are taken in GCSE, IGCSE and A Levels using UK examination boards. The vast majority of students leaving QIS move onto higher education in leading universities all over the world but most especially the UK, USA, Canada, UAE, and Qatar itself. The vast majority of teaching staff are UK-trained, and the school prides itself on ensuring it keeps up to date with the best international practice in education and learning.

Our student body is truly international, with over 60 different nationalities represented within the current cohort. While the teaching staff are predominantly from the UK and the curriculum is taught in English, the school is adept at integrating students from a wide variety of cultural and academic backgrounds.

We hope you will enjoy browsing our website (www.qis.org) and we look forward to welcoming you to the school.
