Job overview

A sub-tropical island of spectacular and beautiful landscapes in the South Atlantic with a warm and friendly population of 4,500, St Helena is a self-governing overseas territory of the UK. Following the opening of its international airport in October 2017, St Helena is better placed to develop both economically and socially.

There are four schools on the island; one secondary and three primaries. The curriculum broadly models the English education system.

In this vital role you will offer support, guidance and training to members of the Inclusion Service to enable a better service to support areas of SEND in schools. You must help develop a Code of Practice and contribute to raising standards as you identify and develop programmes of intervention, liaising with key stakeholders to build support. You should also train and up-skill the Inclusion Team and support parents.

Holding a recognised UK teaching qualification you will have attained degree level in an area relevant to SEND.  With knowledge of Inclusion and matters pertaining to SEND, you will have worked in the field of SEN in schools, teaching and demonstrating practical skills and providing professional development and training. 

Committed to an aspirational quality of classroom learning experience for all young people, you are able to motivate and inspire with high expectations of trainee and serving teachers. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the use of ICT, should be supported by strong leadership and negotiating skills, diplomacy and sensitivity and outstanding teaching and training skills.
