Travel to all academy sites, and pupil’s homes on occasion, may be expected, with mileage expenses available to be claimed from the nominated base.

It is a really exciting time in the academy’s development as we look to expand our provision, enhance the curriculum offer and build a reputation as the alternative provider of choice in the county. We have made some really exciting appointments in the last year at a time where recruitment presents it challenges and we are now looking to offer another full -time permanent contract for a teacher to join our academy.
We are looking to recruit an experienced and inspiring teacher to join our academy to teach our primary pupils. The staffing team is small compared to a mainstream school and consists of 4 teachers and 5 TAs. There are currently 5 different timetables available for pupils depending on age and need. Classes are small and may have approximately 5 pupils in each. Some are taught on a one to one basis and some pupils attend site for half days and have home teaching for the other half. The post will suit an experienced teacher who is willing to be flexible to meet the needs of the pupils and the academy. We review our offer depending on pupil numbers and their needs, and we make frequent changes to ensure that the site can meet the needs of the pupils that are on roll. We welcome applications from candidates who are able to teach engaging and inspiring lessons to challenging and disengaged primary pupils. Our curriculum includes, maths, English, reading, science, PHRE and nurture activities based on Boxall strand development.
Applicants should have good knowledge and experience of working with disaffected pupils in a school or other alternative setting. An affinity for pupils with behavioural, emotional and social difficulties is an essential quality for this challenging but rewarding opportunity. Applicants should be resilient, have high expectations, and a sense of humour. You must be able to build positive relationships with our pupils and think outside of the box. You will be responsible for contributing to a small staffing team to ensure that the site runs smoothly. A growth mindset and positive ethos are essential characteristics that we are looking for.
An allocated base will be named for payment of mileage and any travel calculation between sites for CPD or for engaging in off -site rewards trips etc. Candidates must have access to a vehicle and car insurance with business use included.

The North East Derbyshire AP (alternative provision) Academy provides education to students who are at risk of permanent exclusion or who have already been permanently excluded from mainstream education. Our provision caters for students in Key Stages 2, 3 and 4, at sites located in Chesterfield and in the High Peak.
Every child deserves an education. Our primary aim is to support and re-engage young people, enabling them to think positively about their future pathway, and life after the Support Centre, whether that be re-integration into mainstream, further education or employment. Whilst the majority of our students have been permanently excluded, we work closely with local school clusters and the local authority to provide education opportunities to young people who are at risk of exclusion. Such placements have been highly successful in preventing numerous permanent exclusions in Derbyshire.
We are committed to working in partnership with young people, their parents and carers, their schools and other agencies to re-engage and enable them to become successful learners and responsible citizens. Where students are able to demonstrate positive behaviour and a desire to achieve, we aim to help them transition back to mainstream school. For those who require a more alternative approach, we provide a balanced and varied curriculum, delivered through high quality teaching and learning.
Alternative Provision is not a last resort for young people. For some it is the most appropriate way to meet their needs and put them back on a pathway to success.
