Sayes Court Primary School is seeking a dynamic teacher with a background in EYFS to take on a brand new role within our vibrant school to lead KS1. This is an exciting and varied position which would ideally suit someone who is creative, energetic and can work on their own initiative. 

As well as leading KS1, the successful candidate will also have dedicated teaching time, and will be required to work alongside the EYFS Lead as part of the Phonics Team.

The main duties of the role will include:

  • Contributing to driving the school’s aims and policies and participating in the implementation of policies and plans, targets and practices.
  • Planning and assessing pupil’s learning using knowledge of school policies, schemes of work and National Curriculum requirements for the relevant curriculum areas.
  • To lead, manage and work collaboratively with KS1 teachers and support staff and, as appropriate, with other adults. Supporting and providing training for teachers and support staff in KS1 and across the school.
  • Working with SLT and staff to ensure good outcomes for pupils in KS1 and across the school where necessary
  • Securing and sustaining effective teaching of the relevant subjects for individuals, groups and classes. Developing the quality of teaching across KS1, working with SLT and teachers to assess the standards of pupil’s achievements and set targets for improvement. Working to ensure good provision and outcomes for phonics across the school. Working to ensure that the teaching of handwriting and presentation across the school is in line with the school policy and where necessary working with SLT and Middle Leaders to develop NQTs.  
  • Planning effectively, where applicable, to meet the needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs and, in collaboration with the SENCo.
  • Establishing resource needs for KS1 and advise the Headteacher of likely priorities for expenditure, and allocate available resources effectively. Ensuring the effective, efficient management and organisation of learning resources across KS1 including information and communications technology.
  • Creating an effective and stimulating environment for the teaching and learning of the subject. risks are properly assessed.
  • Liaising effectively with pupils’ parents/carers and support teachers in developing informative oral and written reports on pupils’ progress and achievements, discussing appropriate targets and encouraging them to support their children’s learning, behaviour and progress; 
  • Taking responsibility for own professional development, setting objectives for improvements, and taking action to keep up-to-date with research and developments in pedagogy and in the subject(s) taught.

The successful candidate:

  • Commitment to raising standards in attainment and progress and achieving high standards 
  • Up to date knowledge of current trends in education
  • Qualified to Degree Level with Qualified Teacher Status 
  • Prior teaching experience in Nursery, Reception and KS1
  • A proven track record of success in EYFS and a strong understanding of learning and practice in EYFS
  • Evidence of CPD and/or school practice
  • Experience of leading training and interventions in Phonics and Presentation 
  • Experience of leading a team
  • Knowledge and understanding of the theory and practice of the National Curriculum through   observation, planning and assessment
  • Understanding of the requirements of pupils with SEN and EAL
  • High expectations of pupils’ achievement and behaviour 
  • Confident use of ICT 
  • Evidence of involvement in curriculum development 
  • An understanding of developments in assessment 
  • Excellent knowledge of phonics/spelling 
  • Excellent classroom practitioner 
  • Commitment to being an excellent team player 
  • Excellent relationships with children, parents, staff and governors
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing to a variety of audiences
  • Excellent behaviour management skills 
  • Create a happy, challenging and effective learning environment 
  • Experience of target setting
  • Experience of providing effective feedback to teachers

Sayes Court School is situated in a quiet corner of Addlestone about half a mile from the busy High Street and the town centre. Situated midway between Weybridge and the ancient abbey town of Chertsey in Surrey, Addlestone is a pleasant small town and seat of Runnymede Borough Council. It is currently undergoing a regeneration which will bring, amongst other things, a new six screen cinema. Set in spacious grounds, Sayes Court School has been an all through primary school since 2008 and benefits from even closer community links because of the on-site Children's Centre.
