Job starts: August 15th 2023

Location: Hatyai, Thailand.

Contract Type: Full Time

Contract Term: 2 years, with a further 2-year contract extension available thereafter.

Principal: Mr. John Calvert

Located in the city of Hatyai in southern Thailand, Bloomsbury International School Hatyai is a co-educational International Independent School. Bloomsbury was founded in 2016 and offers a British style curriculum to both day and boarding students. Our Primary School is small with around 130 students, but this is expanding on a weekly basis due to our growing reputation. We are a caring, kind team, committed to every student achieving their very best. The students here universally want to do well, there is no bullying and all interactions are based upon obvious and clear respect.

Last year, we received our full accreditation from CIS, one of only 20 schools in Thailand to achieve this highest accolade.

The Position

The Primary department has gained a reputation for excellence within the local community, and we wish the new teachers to develop that good practice still further. We have a well established and clear curriculum, based upon the English National Curriculum. We use T4W, DSR, WRM and the ENC for other subjects. We also have developed our own International Education curriculum and our own Leadership curriculum. It is expected that we will continue to develop our own wider curriculum offer still further next year. Pupils in Years 5 and 6, bring their own device to school and we fully embed Technology for Learning into most lessons, but only when it enhances the learning. Our first and main role is to develop the use of English into every lesson, as the vast majority of our students speak English as an additional language. Talk for Writing is the most effective method of developing English, and therefore a commitment to learning or better still experience of using it would be an advantage.

Our pupils thrive here. This is a happy, hardworking school. Bullying is unknown here, and we want it to stay that way! Pupils treat adults with admiration and respect. Teaching here is a joy, but it is expected that you will uphold our high standards of a pupil's personal development as well as their academic excellence.

As a small school, all our staff need to be an integral part of the team. Our teachers and support staff are incredibly hardworking, dedicated and kind; they want a new Primary teacher who is just like them. We only accept applications from staff with QTS or equivalent.

We have some flexibility across the primary school as to where the successful candidates will be placed. When writing your application letter, please state which Key Stage or Year groups you would prefer to work in or where your main experience lies.

Key Information

All international staff are expected to be completely fluent in English and be skilled in the use of technology for education. They are expected to take a full part in the school community, working with pupils in extra-curricular activities.

The successful candidate will:

• Have English qualified teacher status or equivilant.

• Have a professional manner and the ability to communicate clearly and well

• Be approachable, knowledgeable and committed to academic and personal excellence

• Be kind, thoughtful and have a well developed sense of humour

Location

Hatyai is located in southern Thailand close to the border with Malaysia; it is only 40 a minute drive to the nearest beach in Songkhla Town. The city is a regional hub for tourism and a gateway to many of southern Thailand's other destinations. With easy internal links to Krabi, Phuket, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Koh Samui, and Koh Lipe as well as 16 flights per day to Bangkok it is easy to spend your weekends or holidays exploring Thailand. Internationally, there are daily flights to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur both of which are only a short flight away, providing easy links to much of Asia.

Hatyai is an up and coming small city without the high cost of living found in other more frequented destinations in Thailand. Hatyai does not have the thriving nightlife scene of Bangkok but there are bars, music venues and restaurants serving a range of Western, Asian and local food. However, there are not the throngs of western tourists. or expats (there are only around 500 in the whole of Songkhla province). As a professional in Thailand you are respected by the whole community and you can fully expect this in Hatyai which has a very 'Thai' feel with a local population who are friendly and helpful, welcoming people with the famous 'Thai Smile'.

This is a small school, in a small expat community, you must be able to work and socialise alongside your colleagues, without falling out or falling into cliques.
