Description St Joseph's Primary School, Merewether is seeking a temporary teacher to join their team for 2021.



This position will be FTE: 0.4 in Term 3 and then it will revert to a full-time temporary position in Term 4.



Maternity Leave Replacement.



Situated near the city and beaches of Newcastle, Saint Joseph's Merewether has a rich historical and social fabric. Located in an area known as The Junction, Saint Joseph's owes much of its ethos to the Sisters of Saint Joseph. Position Requirements Teachers in a Catholic school have a unique role to play and are assigned with the task of ensuring each child has the opportunity to grow both academically and spiritually and to live purposeful lives.



The teacher will promote the school as a place of learning and excellence in accordance with contemporary evidence-based learning and wellbeing principles (including digital learning) and will ensure the ongoing development and implementation of pedagogical practices that impact on student learning outcomes.



The Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle has an abiding commitment to promote the safety, welfare and wellbeing of children and vulnerable adults - particularly those who participate in the life of the Diocese. All employees are required to undergo a National Police Check and, where legislated, hold a Working with Children Check. Essential Criteria • Practising Catholic with a current Parish Priest Reference;

• Ability to articulate a clear understanding of, and a personal commitment to, Catholic Education and to actively supporting the Catholic ethos and culture of the school;

• Ability to apply appropriate knowledge in order to plan and prepare contemporary and compliant teaching and learning programs which meet the diverse characteristics, needs and learning styles of students;

• Demonstrated use of relevant strategies to develop knowledge, skills, problem solving and critical and creative thinking;

• Demonstrated ability to effectively utilise data to optimise educational outcomes;

• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with school staff and members of the wider community in order to establish productive partnerships and achieve educational outcomes;

• Demonstrated use of effective classroom communication strategies;

• Demonstrated ability to inclusively and positively engage and support all students in the class

• Willingness to Comply or Compliance with the CSO Accreditation to Work, Teach and Lead Policy. Category B or D – Accreditation to Teach or Accreditation to Teach Religion.

The applicant must provide evidence of the following:


• Qualifications as a four year trained teacher;

• Current NESA Accreditation;

• Current Paid Working with Children Check (WWCC)number;

• Completion of Anaphylaxis training.

Technology is integrated across the curriculum and is a focus of teaching and learning.

Curriculum

St Joseph’s delivers the seven Key Learning Areas in the Primary Catholic School Curriculum of New South Wales. These are Religious Education, English, Mathematics, Science and Technology, HSIE, Creative Arts and Personal Development, Health and Physical Education. Participation in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) lessons, as well as robotics and Minecraft, is encouraged.

St Joseph's provides an opportunity for pupils to excel in creative arts, including dance, visual arts, drama and music, as well as sports such as specialised gymnastic lessons, netball gala days and rugby, cricket and soccer clinics.

Students with special needs are provided with individual education programs.
