Description Part-time permanent teaching position at St Patrick's Primary School, Wallsend.
Position Requirements • must be able to fulfil the requirements of the Diocesan Faith Education Accreditation Policy.
• a relevant understanding of the philosophy of Catholic Education.
• ability to teach in the primary curriculum area K-6.
• high level knowledge of the relevant key learning area (K-6) and a proven capacity to improve student learning.
• high quality classroom teaching skills in the area of ES1 - 3 which enable students with a diverse range of needs to achieve their full potential.
• exemplary values and attitudes appropriate to professional practice and the intellectual, physical and social development of students.
• ability to successfully implement and evaluate curriculum initiatives in accordance with curriculum and standards framework.
• demonstrated capacity to reflect critically upon professional practice and commitment to ongoing professional learning.
• commitment and capacity to actively contribute to a broad range of school activities as a member of the school team.
• high level of communication and interpersonal skills when relating to students, parents and other teachers.
Essential Criteria Applicant must
• applicants will need to comply with the Accreditation to Work Teach and Lead - formerly the Faith Education Accreditation (FEA) Policy 2012 and will need to work towards Accreditation at Category D – Accreditation to Teach Religion.
• be appropriately qualified as a four year trained primary teacher
• be a practising Catholic
• record current NESA and Working With Children number on application.
• evidence of completion of Anaphylaxis training certificate must be supplied. (https://etraining.allergy.org.au/login/index.php) Note: To start or return to working as a teacher in a NSW school, you must be accredited by NESA.
Desirable Criteria • Understand the key ingredients of a Professional Learning Community at Work - 'PLC’s’ ( A Focus on Learning, Collaborative Culture and Collective Responsibility and Results Orientation).
• Ability to implement future focused practices that maximise student learning and engagement
• Demonstrated Ability to work flexibly as part of a collaborative team
• Sound understanding of data usage to improve student outcomes.
• Demonstrated capacity or willingness to support whole school programs such as : sport, public speaking, digital literacy, choir and other extra-curricular opportunities.

St Patrick’s is a systemic Catholic K-6, co-educational Primary School located at Wallsend in the Hunter Valley Region, north of Sydney in New South Wales. It is part of the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle and has a current student enrolment of 215 students. The school was founded in 1883 by the Sister’s of Mercy, who continued to staff the school until 1969, when the first lay Principal was appointed. Teachers committed to nurturing, creativity, critical thinking and innovation are highly valued by the school community.

Facilities

Recent years have seen a series of major improvements to the overall facilities of St Patrick’s Primary School with the complete refurbishment of the school hall and kitchen area, the canteen, the specialist Art Room and all classroom buildings. An additional classroom and withdrawal areas for student support  was also added. The school now presents as a welcoming modern primary school and a motivating environment for the acquisition of learning.

Curriculum

Along with Religious Education, St Patrick’s Primary School acquires curriculum content for its teaching and learning practices through reference to the NSW Board of Studies Syllabuses across each of the six key learning areas. As well as a commitment to deepen each student’s knowledge of the Catholic Story and Teachings, the school also prides itself on being a place of learning excellence, whereby, through the nurturing of creativity, critical thinking and innovations, each student’s ability to reach their full potential is maximised.
