Job overview

An exciting opportunity has opened for an inspirational leader to join Astrea as the Principal of Carrfield Academy.

Working with the Executive Principal and Astrea’s CEO, the Principal will be responsible for ensuring the educational success of the academy within the framework of their individual academies’ strategic plans. They will provide professional leadership and management and must establish a culture that promotes excellence, equality and high expectations of all pupils, whilst contributing to the success of all children within the Astrea family.

Carrfield is a one and a half form primary with 300 children on roll, ranging from four to eleven years. The local area has recently benefited from regeneration programmes and investment, and as an academy we have worked tirelessly with families and partners to become a strong part of the local community.

We are an academy which provides our pupils with the best possible start in life, and helps them acquire the skills, knowledge and ambition to be effective members of a changing society. To do this we work hard to develop not just their academic ability, but the skills required to be successful life-long learners.  We work closely with the other 5 academies in our Hub; collaboratively working on projects and sharing expertise.

Carrfield Primary has had an exciting journey in recent years; from receiving a letter of comfort from Sir David Carter (National Schools Commissioner) in 2016 as an inadequate school, to a ‘Good’ school in November 2017’s Ofsted Inspection, there have been rapid improvements across school with exciting developments of school environment, teaching and learning and curriculum offers such as the Astrea Promise to name just a few areas. We are now looking for our next inspirational and driven leader to continue that rapid improvement to Outstanding.

The successful candidate will be capable of working collaboratively with colleagues, parents and key stakeholders including the local authorities and Ofsted. If you are motivated by helping to create a culture of constant improvement, and if you are seeking to improve outcomes for young people then we would love to hear from you.

Astrea Academy Trust is committed to high quality professional development and career opportunities for all staff, we are also passionate about cultivating our own talented workforce. At Astrea we believe that we can provide these unique roles by providing a huge opportunity to join a dynamic team working across the family of academies to raise achievement.

We foster a collaborative culture where talented individuals can produce their best work. We welcome all applicants who meet the criteria in the accompanying recruitment pack to apply for this exciting role.

Visits to the academy are warmly encouraged; to book a visit, or if you have any queries on any aspect of the application process then please contact Laura Booth, Office Manager, on 01709 893 121, or by email at laura.booth@astreacarrfield.org

Closing Date: Friday 22nd March 2019 at 12 noon

Interviews:  Date to be confirmed

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people we expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Posts are subject to enhanced DBS check.

Carrfield Primary Academy

At Carrfield Primary Academy we seek to create a happy, positive and caring working environment where children are valued, both academically and socially. Our aim is to ensure that every child in our care reaches their full potential and experiences a broad, balanced and creative curriculum. We endeavour to produce lifelong learners who will relish the challenges that our rapidly changing world has to offer.

Carrfield Primary Academy has a friendly and welcoming atmosphere where every child is valued. All the staff, parents, governors are committed to working together to ensure every child reaches their potential.

We have high hopes and aspirations for our children and we are continuously adapting and redesigning our curriculum to ensure that we interest all of our children and involve them as fully as possible in their learning. We want our children to be excited about coming to school and to love learning; to be motivated, enthusiastic, and challenged; to know that success is in each and every one of them and comes as a result of their own effort: this is paramount. We endeavour to provide our children with the belief that they can improve and learn, and to be delighted and proud of their many achievements.

We believe however, that in order for children to achieve their best, there needs to be a really positive co-operation between home and school. We really value the relationships that exist between home and school and seek to involve the parents and carers as much as possible, not just in their child’s education, but in the work of the school in general.
