Job overview

Tudor Grange Academy Kingshurst (previously CTC Kingshurst Academy) is an 11 to 18 school in Kinghurst, North Solihull, West Midlands, England. It was the only City Technology College to offer post-16 pupils the opportunity to study the International Baccalaureate instead of A-Levels alongside GNVQ’s and BTECs in various subjects. Now, whilst offering a broad and balanced curriculum for 11-16 pupils, it maintains an offer for post-16 pupils with a blend of A Levels, instead of the IB, and continues with BTECs.

The school accommodates over 1,300 pupils of all abilities from 11 to 19 years of age. It is situated on the eastern outskirts of Birmingham in the suburb of Kingshurst, North Solihull. The school serves the East Birmingham and North Solihull areas.

In 2018, CTC Kingshurst Academy joined Tudor Grange Academies Trust, a MAT (Multi-Academy Trust) that consists of 11 schools, offering either primary or secondary education. The Trust was formed by its founding school, Tudor Grange Academy Solihull. Having joined the trust, CTC Kingshurst Academy was renamed and is now known as Tudor Grange Academy, Kingshurst.

The school has benefitted from increasing stability since joining the Trust.  The staff, pupils, governors and community are fully committed to improving outcomes and ambitious to see the school become a beacon of success in the region.

The school requires a leader who can drive improvement in progress and sustain the transformational cultural change that has been started. The successful applicant will be an exceptional person with the inspirational leadership skills and the experience to manage and lead the school’s future development. The post is for a Principal who will be solely based at Kingshurst to sustain improvement and upskill an incredibly talented and committed senior leadership team.  The post-holder should have strong talent management skills; a key responsibility of the role will be to develop leaders who have the potential for Headship.

We are looking to appoint a leader who:

• has the highest aspirations for our pupils and can inspire both them and staff to achieve remarkable things and lead happy fulfilling lives

• Will continue to develop a talented senior leadership team and sustain change and progress

To achieve this, we expect that the leader appointed will:.

• Be a role model, a champion of learning

• Have proven experience in raising standards of attainment for all pupils, including having extensive knowledge and experience of effective use of data for root cause analysis and shaping successful strategic intervention

• Have a track record of leading successful change at a whole school level

• Set the highest expectations for both staff and pupils, empowering them to give of their best; ‘good is not good enough’

• Build excellent relationships with pupils, staff, parents and governors

• Maintain the professional respect of colleagues and so create a clear, visible and distinctive team ethic

• Work collaboratively with other schools and partners – in the Trust and beyond

• Be enthusiastic about the opportunity to work with the Trust

• Show solid financial acumen, managing the school’s resources so that it works within its means

• Display a sense of humour, warmth, humility, energy, stamina and resilience

In seeking to realise the vision for the School, the Principal would be expected to carry out the key responsibilities below.  Lists of this sort can only ever be indicative. The order of the tasks listed here should not be taken to imply an order of importance, nor should this list be read as complete or inclusive of all responsibilities.

About Tudor Grange Academy Kingshurst

To prospective teachers who really want to make a difference to children’s lives,

I am Nicola Crehan, the very proud Principal of Tudor Grange Academy Kingshurst which is a vibrant and inclusive community school made up of 1200 extraordinary students and 120 devoted members of staff.

I know that for someone wanting to advance in their teaching career whilst ensuring they get a sense of fulfilment, deciding on the right role and school is crucial - and it can also be more than a little daunting. With this in mind, I wanted to convey an honest and transparent account of who we are and what to expect – and what we expect in return. This is in the hope that I can help you make informed decisions and lay any preconceived notions to rest.

Tudor Grange Academy Kingshurst is a truly remarkable school which has been on a rapid improvement journey for the past three years since it became part of the Tudor Grange Academies Trust family.  As a learning community, we strongly believe that every student deserves equitable life chances, and that a high quality academic and holistic education is the key to raising aspirations and improving outcomes for all.

Our children are curious and creative, and we do whatever we can to encourage a lifelong love of learning and equip them with life skills that enable them to reach their full potential. We expect everyone within our school community to be readyresponsible, and respectful. These are our school values which can be seen and felt in every corner of school life. We ensure that by the time our young people leave Kingshurst, they are prepared and excited to take their next steps into further education, or embark on their career journey.

Anyone considering joining our school must share and understand our ethos, vision and values from the start.  We know the power of quality education and the difference exceptional teaching can make to our students and their families. Therefore, we are on a mission to find exceptional educators and facilitators who share this belief and want to add value to the lives of young people.

I’m sure you will have looked at our past OFSTED ratings and  may have some preconceived ideas about our academy.  These will all form part of your decision-making process. We encourage you to apply due diligence when researching our school and speak to us directly. I urge you to look past this.

Please take a look at our recruitment video What is Tudor Grange Academy Kingshurst about?

I feel incredibly privileged to serve this community and I will continue to do so with unswerving commitment and a promise that our young people will become responsible, respectful young adults who are ready to flourish in all aspects of life.

If you feel the same, I’d love to hear from you and would love for you to apply to our vacancies or join our talent pool.

Making a difference to so many young people is a total joy.

Tudor Grange Academy Kingshurst is truly a great place to be.
