Job overview

We put learners and learning first. Learning is affected by both internal factors (such as emotions, motivation and general health and wellbeing) and external factors (such as environment, curriculum and relationships). The Head of School is ultimately responsible for the quality of learning within their school and influences this through leading, engaging and motivating their teaching and school support teams and working in partnership with them to harness positive factors and mitigate or overcome those that detract.

At ISP, everyone is a learner. So as one of our Heads of School, you are also a learner. Your ability to embrace and model a growth and development mindset, demonstrating a desire to learn and build on your capabilities, as well as fostering the learning and growth of your team, will be fundamental to your school’s success.

The British School of Geneva (BSG) offers the cohesive English National Curriculum from Reception through to A-Levels. Open to students of all origins and educational backgrounds, there are currently over 70 nationalities represented, and this extraordinary diversity enriches lessons, perspectives and friendships.

Class sizes are limited to a maximum of 18 students (maximum 14 in A-Level classes) so that teachers can tailor lessons to suit individual learning needs. The school’s size also allows teachers and administrators to know each student, recognise their strengths and differences, and encourage them to develop their skills and abilities as:

  • Successful Learners… who enjoy and understand their own learning and who know what they need to do to make progress and fulfil their potential,
  • Confident Individuals… who are equipped with the skills to adapt to and cope with an ever-changing global society, and
  • Responsible Citizens… who demonstrate a commitment to themselves, friends, family, their local community and the wider world.

Its recently launched programme, The Ark, is unique in Geneva: an English-language centre for autistic teens, part of a mainstream school allowing opportunities for true inclusivity. In addition to elements of the English National Curriculum, students in The Ark learn life skills they will need in further education or when they seek employment.

Begin with our children and students. Our children and students are at the heart of what we do. Simply, their success is our success. Wellbeing and safety are both essential for learners and learning. Therefore, we are consistent in identifying potential safeguarding issues and acting and following up on all concerns appropriately.

Treat everyone with care and respect. We look after one another, embrace similarities and differences and promote the well-being of self and others

Operate effectively. We focus relentlessly on the things that are most important and will make the most difference. We apply school policies and procedures and embody the shared ideas of our community.

Learn continuously. Getting better is what drives us. We positively engage with personal and professional development and school improvement.

ISP is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All post holders are subject to appropriate vetting procedures and satisfactory Criminal Background Checks or equivalent covering the previous 10 years’ employment history.

Values and vision

The British School of Geneva is proud of its international community and wants all pupils to benefit from an enriching learning experience where they can strengthen their knowledge, skills and future opportunities through an Anglophone education. The all-through school wants all pupils to reach their full potential and achieve to the highest of their ability, offering personalised teaching in small classrooms, where dedicated teachers work to help nurture students unique skills and talents. It is important to the school that parents play a core role in their children’s education and are encouraged to keep in regular contact with teachers to ensure everyone is working on the same level for the benefit of the students. A wide range of extra-curricular activities are offered to students to allow for them to gain new experiences outside of the classroom, such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award, where they practice their role as active citizens through community service in the local area.
