We are looking for an enthusiastic, competent and highly motivated Team Leader for Apprenticeship Functional Skills to join our close-knit business unit on a permanent, full-time basis working 37 hours per week.

The Functional Skills Team Leader will contribute towards the smooth running of our work-based learning functional skills provision. This role involves managing a team of tutors, allocating work, monitoring staff performance and learner progress as well as internally quality assuring the process and maintaining direct claim status with the awarding organisation. 

This role will also involve providing dedicated one to one or group support to help learners improve their English, maths & ICT skills. The right candidate will need to be comfortable working with a diverse range of young people and adults and be able to build a good rapport with both individual and corporate clients.

The post holder will ensure frequent and effective communication with the Functional Skills team and possess strong organisation and administration skills. Monitoring and evaluating the services will be also part of this role as the right candidate will be responsible for shaping service delivery, building strong relationships with partners and maintaining good relationships.

Main duties include:

• To provide support and information to potential learners, employers and staff. 

• Manage a team of tutors to ensure that they are working effectively and efficiently and that learners are making significant progress.

• Allocate tutors to learners in a fair and equitable way and ensure that learners are challenged to achieve their functional skills well before their expected end date.

• Track and monitor that all Apprentices either hold or are working towards level 2 functional skills qualifications

• To be the first point of contact for learner support and liaise with colleagues as appropriate

• To conduct regular meetings with the Functional Skills Team and other staff working on Functional Skills as appropriate 

• Work with employers to develop maths, English and ICT support in the workplace and allocate relevant tutors to the provision.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Degree Level Qualification in a relevant field

• Recognised teaching qualification

• Experience of successfully delivering functional skills from entry level to level 2

• Ability to work in and manage a team.

Nelson and Colne College, located in the town of Nelson, Lancashire, offers further education to 1,600 full-time students and 3,500 part-time adults. The college was founded during the reorganisation of education in Pendle in the early 1970s and created by the merger of several local sixth forms.
