We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated Psychotherapist who wants to work in a setting for 57 secondary aged students with special educational needs. This is a permanent role full-time role starting as soon as possible.

You will be responsible to provide Psychotherapy Services to children and young adults with a range of relevant complex needs, such as learning difficulties/disabilities, social, emotional and mental health difficulties and/or behaviour that challenges.

This includes planning and delivery of individual programmes: short term intervention cycles of 4 – 6 weeks or longer as needed, group work on building self-awareness and self-esteem, coping with changes and transitions, emotional literacy, anger management, navigating relationships and you will be required to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.

This role will include providing reports and observations on individual’s social, emotional, and mental health conditions, and developing relevant individual and group therapeutic programmes.

You will be responsible for attending meetings with external professionals from a range of agencies, providing detailed reports and keeping detailed records of clients’ progress, supporting managers, teachers, teaching assistants and other relevant professionals to implement programmes.

You will work alongside our multi-professional therapeutic team and with external professionals to deliver pupil profiling sessions – covering student history, documenting current behaviours and challenges, explaining diagnoses, developing interventions and recommending strategies to assist staff to work therapeutically with students.

This includes maintaining regular clinical supervision sessions with a qualified professional supervisor, and undertaking professional CPD in line with requirements of BACP and relevance to the needs of students and staff.

We are looking for a Psychotherapist who will liaise with service users, observing them and using relevant tests to assess their specific difficulties, including advising and recommending therapeutic aids, and advising and coaching parents and carers, to also contribute to staff development and training.

You will receive support from an enthusiastic team of teachers, teaching assistants, learning support and other therapists with the overall aim being to maximise each child’s potential in a nurturing and supportive environment.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be a fully qualified Psychotherapist.
  • Be a confident decision maker with good leadership skills.
  • Have excellent written English skills with good reading, writing and numeracy skills, with an ability to write detailed reports.
  • Possess the ability to build good working relationships with children, teachers, parents, and support workers.
  • Have excellent communication and listening skills, with an ability to work on own initiative, with an ability to explain complex issues to laypersons
  • Have experience of working with children and young people with Special Educational Needs, in particular Social Emotional Mental Health, Autism and behaviours that challenge.
  • Have a full Driving licence, willingness to travel to various sites, while demonstrating a commitment to personal development and training.


Salary: £30,000.00-£36,000.00 per year dependent upon experience

  • BACP Accreditation, UKCP registration or BPC (required)
