Qualified Chef – Term Time Only


45 hours per week Monday – Friday 


Salary – competitive depending on experience


We are looking for a qualified chef to join our busy catering team.


Duties will include (but are not limited to):


• Catering for 100+ students and staff (lunch and evening meal)


• Working within the catering team to cover all aspects of kitchen work


The successful candidate will have the following:


• Essential:

o Ability to work within a dedicated and hard-working team

o Craft experience of working in a busy kitchen environment (not necessarily a school)

o Passion for providing healthy and appetising meals from fresh ingredients

o Commitment to achieve the highest level of customer service

o Ability to take instruction and follow procedures as set out by the kitchen manager

o Good knowledge of health and safety and hygiene requirements

o Experience in dealing with allergies

o NVQ Level 2 Catering / Hospitality / Professional Cookery or equivalent


• Desirable:

o NVQ Level 3 Catering / Hospitality / Professional Cooker or equivalent

Shapwick School is situated on the delightful Somerset levels, near to the coast, the Mendips, Quantocks and Exmoor.  As a CReSTeD category ‘SP’ School, Shapwick specialises in supporting boys and girls aged 8 to 18 years whose education has been adversely affected by dyslexia, dyspraxia and dyscalculia.  We employ a team of specialist teachers, speech & language therapists and occupational therapists who deliver to small classes (average size is 8) and individuals.

As one of the first specialist schools for children with dyslexia, dyscalculia and dyspraxia the school is very proud of its staffs’ experience at understanding each child’s individual needs and helping them to grow into confident, skilled and happy adults ready to take the next stage in their life.
