Tribal are working with MEI to provide the DfE contract to run the Advanced Mathematics Support Programme (AMSP). The AMSP aims to increase participation in A level Mathematics, A level Further Mathematics and Core Maths. The AMSP will support schools and colleges throughout England, delivering professional development for teachers and providing enrichment and tuition for students.

Here at Tribal, we are recruiting 4 more Regional Maths Improvement Leads, and each post-holder will coordinate AMSP support for schools/colleges within an AMSP region. They will work with school/college leadership teams to improve provision for level 3 mathematics.

Each post-holder will provide a link between the AMSP and one of the following regions:

  • North East of England
  • East Midlands
  • West Midlands
  • London and the South East

We welcome applications to join us as soon as possible or starting in January 2019.

The contracts will run until 30 April 2020 in the first instance, although there may be opportunities for extension, subject to continued government funding.

Tribal delivers educational improvement by providing tools, services, insight and support processes to improve the outcomes of learners. Tribal is the lead consortium partner of the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM).

The Role

Working as part of a team of eight regional leads (based around England) you will provide credible, recognised mathematics school improvement, professional development expertise and leadership to facilitate a coherent strategy of support for level 3 mathematics in each region. You will coordinate AMSP support for schools/colleges within a region, managing the regional team of AMSP Area Coordinators, to increase participation and improve provision for level 3 mathematics.

Your role will be varied as you develop a deep understanding of the provision and participation in level 3 maths in the region. You will be responsible for liaising with key regional stakeholders and representatives of national government programmes supporting mathematics and STEM more widely, to develop and coordinate the implementation of a coherent strategy for level 3 mathematics improvement. Additionally, you will work to ensure high quality support is provided as you coordinate and monitor the work of regional teams of AMSP associates engaged in support activities for the programme.

What skills and experience can I bring to the role?

You will have credible and widely-recognised specialist professional development and school improvement expertise and deep maths subject knowledge. Substantial senior leadership experience in a school/college, academy trust or local authority, together with a successful track record of leading and implementing change strategies to drive continuous improvement will be essential in this position.

Your enthusiasm for mathematics and teaching and the ability to motivate and enthuse others will aid you in this role. You will be able to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, highly effective communication skills and analytical problem-solving abilities. Additionally, you will have the ability to work effectively under pressure, to balance competing priorities and to meet tight deadlines.

You will understand how to use school data and other management information to drive improvement. You will also have experience of observing learning, giving constructive feedback and

developing strategies to support the improvement of performance.
