Resource Developer (research-informed materials creator)

The recently announced Department for Education funded National Centre for Excellence for Language Pedagogy seeks to appoint a talented, experienced, and knowledgeable Resource Developer to create research-informed materials. This is an exciting and unique opportunity to join a programme to reinvigorate language learning in secondary schools in England. The successful candidate will join a bespoke team of nationally and internationally renowned subject specialists, dedicated to ensuring that language pedagogy is strengthened and research-informed and that languages are re-situated at the core of secondary school education. The Centre will support and direct the work of Specialist Teachers in nine Lead Schools each working with their local Hub schools (45 schools in total) and their extended networks (an additional 90 schools).

The main aims of the Centre are (1) to develop, enrich, and disseminate research-informed pedagogic knowledge, training, and resources and (2) monitor and evaluate the Centre and its network schools' performance against the Key Performance Indicators. These include increasing pupil uptake of MFL at GCSE and increasing teacher capacity to and confidence in delivering the recommendations of the Review of MFL Pedagogy published by the Teaching School's Council in 2016.   Applicants are strongly advised to be familiar with this report, available here

Role

The post holder will make a major contribution to the Centre’s work, leading on the production of research-informed materials in the nine lead schools, the hubs, and wider networks of schools.  The Resource Developer will co-ordinate the population and development of the Centre’s resource database, which will be open to all schools. A key responsibility will be to promote, monitor, and evaluate uptake and engagement with the resources. The post-holder would also extend and enrich the content and use of the OASIS and IRIS resources.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications needed

We welcome applications from candidates with a good honours degree in a language related subject, preferably with a combination of one or more of German,French or Spanish, as well as a suitable teaching (e.g. PGCE) or post-graduate research qualification (e.g., Masters or PhD or equivalent).  The post would suit an innovative linguist, with a track record of teaching and/or research into pedagogy, and a flair for and experience in resource creation, with previously published research-informed resources an advantage.  An understanding of research-informed pedagogy and curriculum design is essential, as are secure IT skills and the willingness to develop further technical and digital literacy, as required.

The post is available part time, up to 0.6 FTE (22.0 hours per week), up until 30th September 2020 depending on FTE and start date. A combination of part-time posts would be considered.
