Applications are invited for a position as School Chaplain. As a member of this team, you will support the faith, spiritual and pastoral needs of students. This includes support and guidance about ethics, values, relationships and spiritual issues; the provision of student welfare; and enhancing engagement with the broader community. This is a part-time fixed-term position for commencing on 20 July and concluding on 4 December 2020. The position is four days per week with specific days negotiable.

As School Chaplain you will:
• Contribute to and promote the development, alignment, attainment and review of the mission and strategic goals for Brisbane Catholic Education (BCE);
• Work closely with others to promote and develop student wellbeing, emotional resilience, positive relationships and a sense of community;
• Collaborate with others such as the Campus Minister or APRE in supporting the faith, spiritual and pastoral needs of students;
• Provide appropriate referrals for students in accordance with school approved protocols and processes; and
• Promote positive partnerships within and beyond the school community.

Minimum requirements for applicants for the position of School Chaplain in a BCE school include possession of either:
• a Certificate IV in Youth Work; or
• a Certificate IV in Pastoral Care; or
• an equivalent qualification - this certificate or equivalent must include a unit of competency in ‘mental health’ and ‘making appropriate referrals’.

As a School Chaplain you are recognised:
• by the local school, its community and BCE as having the skills, experience and qualifications to deliver school chaplaincy to the school and its community; and
• by the faith-based community through one or more of the following:
o formal ordination;
o commissioning;
o recognised religious qualifications; or
o endorsement by a recognised or accepted religious institution.

St Josephs Catholic Primary School is a co-educational school, situated on 4.5 hectares with sweeping mountain views, with a current enrolment of 676 students. To be successful in this role you will:

  • have a commitment to and understanding of the ethos and traditions of Catholic Education;
  • currently hold or be eligible to hold a Paid Employee Positive Notice Blue Card; and
  • be eligible to work in Australia for the duration of the appointment.

Position Tenure:   Fixed Term

Weeks Worked:  School term weeks only (holidays unpaid)

Tenure Duration (If Fixed Term):   20 July to 4 December 2020

Total Paid Hours (per wk) & Days Required:   4 days per week. Days are negotiable

Salary Level, Range or Hourly Rate:   School Officer Level 5 - $31.92 per hour

Employment Conditions:   Diocesan Catholic Education Employing Authorities in Queensland Single Interest Agreement 2015-2019


This position involves working with children.  The appointment of successful applicants will be subject to satisfactory employment screening for child related employment in accordance with the law.
