School Business Manager

GENERAL OUTLINE

To act as the business manager for The Place School- operating across multiple sites. Ensuring effective financial processes, whole school administration and organisational support services, including human resources, facilities management, project management, health & safety, catering, cleaning and travel. The School Business Manager is responsible directly to the Headteacher and has line management responsibility.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Policy and Planning

· Strategic responsibility for website management and compliancy.

· Reviews policies across school.

· Attends Health & Safety committee meetings.

· Development and ongoing monitoring of all management information systems.

· Responsible for devising marketing and promotion strategies for the school.

Compliance

· Maintaining accurate and up to date compliance records as directed by the Executive Headteacher, in line with Independent School Standards.

· Identify the need for and be responsible for securing appropriate licenses.

· Management of the school independent standards as per Ofsted.

· Comply and ensure staff are aware of school policies and procedures relating to first aid, health & safety, fire safety, contingency planning and security, confidentiality, and data protection.

Human Resources

· Strategic responsibility for the design and effective operation of all administrative and human resource procedures.

· Supports all school sites with the administration of the recruitment of staff.

· Ensures DBS and safeguarding checks are regularly updated.

· Oversight and quality assurance of school files and SCR.

Management Projects

· Acts as project manager under the direction of the HT.

· Management of relevant SLAs/contracts in relation to provision of services and presentation of recommendations as a result of ongoing monitoring and evaluation of contracts to the EHT/CFO/CEO.

· Arrange provision, analysis and evaluation of data and detailed reports and information.

Financial

· Responsible for school delegated budgets alongside as per the instruction of the HT.

· Preparation of expenditure reports and estimates on various projects.

· Working in partnership with the to ensure all invoices and receipts are returned to the Head Office for processing.

· Ensure up to date contracts/placement agreements for all young people.

· Lead and manage on school payroll and processes.

Governance

· Clerk to governors, senior meetings and HT meetings.

· Coordinate governance communication and meeting schedule.

· Contribute to reports, analysing trends in data.

· Monitor policy review dates.

· Support with performance management processes.

·Health & Safety

· Co-ordinate external annual H&S checks, reporting any non-compliant H&S concerns to the Group Estates Manager.

· Responsible for coordination of site risk assessments and fire risk assessments.

· To assist with first aid/welfare duties, liaising with parents/carers and/or staff.

· Responsible for the management of CCTV.

Maintenance and catering

· Line management of school maintenance and catering staff.

· Maintain the budgets for maintenance and catering.

· Responsible for regular maintenance checks and premises upkeep schedule.

· Responsible for stock management.

· Organise external agencies/contractors, ensuring works are planned and executed in an efficient and cost effect way.

Experience working in education and schools is desirable, but not essential.

Strong literacy skills.

Good attention to detail

Qualification & Training (D – Desirable, E – Essential)

Level 2 qualification in Numeracy/Maths and Literacy/English or equivalent qualification. (E)

NVQ Level 4 or Degree or equivalent qualification or experience. (D)

Diploma in School Business Management. (D)School Business Manager

Visits to school or phone call conversations are required in order to be shortlisted.
