Based at the National Church of England Academy

Our academy ethos, ‘Life in all its fullness’, underlines our commitment to the education of the whole of the child, with the development of our students’ character and cultural capital as important as their academic progress. Committed to the wellbeing of our students and staff alike, we pride ourselves on our duty of care to both.

The National Church of England Academy are seeking to appoint a School Games Organiser.  Do you have experience of working in a sports environment with a degree or equivalent in Physical Education or Sports Development? If the answer is yes, then this may be the role for you.

There are more than 450 SGOs who work across the country to support schools in their local area. SGOs have several key roles: to coordinate appropriate competitive opportunities for all young people from Key Stage 2-4, to recruit, train and deploy a suitable workforce, and to support the development of club opportunities for all young people.

The School Games, which is funded by Sport England and delivered by the Youth Sport Trust, involves funded School Games Organisers (SGOs) at a local level and School Games County Alliances at a county level working alongside The School Games to create an annual calendar of competition.

You will be based at the National Church of England Academy and work collaboratively with local primary and secondary schools providing opportunities for our young people to participate in sporting events and competitions.  In addition, you will provide leadership and management for the local school sport partnership, working on cultivating strong links with local partners, schools and sports clubs.

With experience in an education or sports environment, you will have a good knowledge and understanding of the School Games programme and will have excellent organisational skills arranging events and competitions – intra and inter.

Leading by example, to create a team of sports leaders from the National Church of England Academy, you will provide leadership opportunities for the young volunteers, including training and development to widen their experiences in the coordination of sporting events.

If this sounds like a role that suits you, then please refer to the person specification and job description for more detailed information on the position available.

If appointed, the applicant will benefit from the following:

• Full support and induction;

• Excellent CPD opportunities;

• Leadership openings if appropriate;

• A strong and caring ethos among staff and students;

• Strong leadership at senior and middle levels;

• A well-being package with the academy signed up to the DfE Education Staff Wellbeing Charter;

• Networking opportunities and collaboration across the MITRE trust.

For information about how to apply for this role, please read our ‘Guidance notes for applicants’. For further information please contact hr@mitretrust.org.uk

Interviews:  Week commencing 18th July 2022

National Church of England Academy is a successful, dynamic secondary academy, offering an all-round education for students. The academy began life as a small school in 1788, and has served the community of Hucknall ever since. We have developed from these humble beginnings into the successful academy that exists and thrives today.

Our aim is to provide a happy and stimulating environment in which young people can develop and grow, preparing them for life after the academy. We want all students who attend National to take their places in the world fully prepared and with a great education, as well-qualified and responsible citizens, with strong values. Our staff work very hard to ensure that all students have high aspirations and do their best to achieve their goals. We are hugely proud of the high standard of teaching and support that we offer to all students, something that is acknowledged and recognised by the quality of our Ofsted reports.

In return for the teaching and support we give to students, we expect them to work hard, behave well, and do their best. The high standards support the high levels of achievement and progress made in all areas across the academy. Our exam outcomes at GCSE and A level are above national averages and we believe that this achievement, coupled with a strong emphasis on individual personal development has enabled students to have greater opportunities and improved life chances.

We are an Anglican foundation. This does not mean that we only accept pupils from a Christian background. We welcome children of all faiths, and of none, who seek education within a framework of strong moral values
