Job overview

Location: Arco Academy, Camberwell (Alternative Provision Based)

School-Home Support (SHS) is a dynamic charity working to ensure every child is in school ready to learn. For over 30 years it has been working with children and young people struggling to stay in school due to a wide range of complex issues. We get children and young people back in school ready to learn, whatever it takes.

This is an opportunity to work alongside Arco Academy to support young people and families to improve issues which are causing poor attendance and behaviour, helping parents to become more engaged with their child’s learning, attainment and aspirations. The practitioner will work with pupils and their families in Arco Academy to provide practical and emotional support to vulnerable families across the school. The role will require you to deliver a programme of casework to promote educational outcomes, positive behaviour, and supporting parents in their homes.

This is an exciting role and the successful candidate will have good experience of working effectively with social and emotional factors affecting a child's capacity to learn, strong abilities in engaging challenging children and their parents, and a confident ability to form professional partnerships within the setting and with other agencies.

Duties of the role:

  • Provide targeted casework for vulnerable pupils and families
  • Organise group work for both young people and families
  • Provide one-to-one mentoring with individual children and parents, setting personal development goals.
  • Provide 1-to-1 emotional and practical support for families
  • Provide transition support back to mainstream education
  • Encourage parental engagement in education
  • Undertake work supporting improved attendance
  • Support wider parental engagement in school
  • Work as part of a team
  • Collate and utilise data and statistics and produce reports for the funder
