This is an exciting opportunity for a professional, highly organised and passionate School Librarian to work as part of our hard-working and very supportive associate staff team. Our modern, purpose-built library plays a central role in our students learning The school is located less than 10 minutes’ walk from Barking tube and mainline station (25 minutes from Fenchurch and Liverpool Street stations) and is easily accessible by road.
We are a friendly, successful, well ordered and inclusive 3-19 all through school serving an ethnically diverse community. We have just celebrated excellent public examination results in 2019 with many students achieving top grades at both GCSE and A level. The school is highly supportive of the professional development of all staff.
The core purpose of the role is to effectively manage our library using computerised systems, promoting literacy initiatives and supervising students. The successful candidate will ensure that the facility is used to its full potential and provide support to pupils, staff and other users of the Library resources and facilities.
Ideally candidates should hold a professional qualification in librarianship, information management or information science or have a minimum of 2 years’ experience working in an Information Centre or Library. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required as you will need to discuss aspects of the school library with our students (3-19), Parents / Carers, Senior Leadership teams and write reports for Governors. Experience within the education sector is highly desirable but not essential, as training will be provided where needed.

Eastbury Community School is part of a successful 6th form partnership arrangement with four other local secondary schools. This partnership will potentially cater for the educational needs of over 1000 pupils studying a diverse range of academic and vocational courses. We have had increasing numbers of pupils achieving top grades in our sixth form; in 2019 we had 24% A*/A and an average grade of B-. Although we cannot publish 2020 grades, we improved on this and our 3-year ALPS measure is a 3, which places us in the top 25% for value added. This was also reflected in the destinations of our pupils, with multiple pupils gaining places at Oxbridge, plus Imperial College London, the LSE and KPMG apprenticeships. Overall, 64% of our pupils went on to study at Russell Group or top third universities. Just like skills and character traits, our pupils have a range of abilities. What we consistently do here, is push them to achieve no matter what their starting point is.
