Description | To provide literacy and numeracy assistance to students with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent. To facilitate opportunities for students to engage in cultural activities across the school. This temporary appointment is funded under an Aboriginal Education program. | |
Position Requirements | The applicant must:
• have a competent level of literacy and numeracy • have an interest in the process of learning to read and understand literacy • have a cooperative nature and a kind manner and be capable of supporting children in their learning • be willing to support the ethos of the Catholic School • be interested in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students including students with additional needs. • be capable of working under the supervision of the Learning Support Coordinator • have an understanding of the local Aboriginal community and networks • have experience in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students • demonstrate recent and relevant experience in initiating, developing, implementing and monitoring Personal Learning Pathways for Indigenous students in a school setting • be willing to assist staff in implementing Aboriginal and Torres-Strait Islander perspectives across the curriculum. |

St Mary’s Primary School is a Catholic parish co-educational school for students in Kindergarten through Year 6. The school is located in Scone, NSW, in the Hunter Valley region. St Mary’s has approximately 220 students and 17 teaching staff.
The school was founded in 1887 by the Sisters of Mercy from Singleton, to provide Catholic education to area families. The school plays a large part in the local parish, and students and staff are very active in weekly Mass and church activities.
Facilities
School facilities include seven air-conditioned classrooms with laptops and smartboards, a technology laboratory, multi-purpose hall, and a large, well-appointed library. The school also offers shaded outdoor play and sport areas, shaded picnic areas for lunch, and basketball courts. There is also an out of school hours care facility for students.
Curriculum
School curriculum is based on the key learning areas of religious education, English, mathematics, science and technology, human society and its environment, creative arts, including visual arts, drama, music, and dance, and personal development, health, and physical education. Classes also make use of technology and computers in all key learning areas.
Students also enjoy participating in sports, drama, and arts.
