St Peter Chanel Primary School, The Gap is seeking a part-time School Officer who will bring excellent skills, understanding and enthusiasm for working collaboratively in the education of children. The role involves working predominately in our school library for 24 hours per week, preferably over four days, term weeks only. The Library based School Officer assists the Teacher Librarian and school staff in a wide variety of administrative and clerical tasks to support operations of the school Library. The successful applicant will show initiative, be able to work as a member of a team and be able to demonstrate flexibility and creativity in liaising with the school’s staff, students and families. A passion for books and resources would be highly beneficial, as would a focus on customer/client service with the emphasis on continually improving the level of service provided to the school community. The role holder will be highly organized and be able to demonstrate sound judgement and exceptional/advanced problem-solving skills. Experience with the BCE Library system Oliver is highly desirable.


St Peter Chanel is situated in The Gap and draws on the traditions and ethos of the Marist fathers and the Sisters of Charity who founded our school. The school is set in beautiful grounds and is well resourced. We provide an inclusive curriculum and environment that caters for approximately 370 students from Prep to Year 6. As a Catholic parish school, we promote a welcoming and vibrant community where respectful and positive relationships are fostered with our parents, carers and the parish community.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • have a commitment to and understanding of the ethos and traditions of Catholic Education;
  • currently hold or be eligible to hold a Paid Employee Positive Notice Blue Card; and
  • be eligible to work in Australia for the duration of the appointment.


Estimated Start Date:
  Commencing January 2020

Position Tenure:   Fixed Term

Weeks Worked:  School term weeks only (holidays unpaid)

Tenure Duration (If Fixed Term):   2020 school year

Total Paid Hours (per wk) & Days Required:   4 days/wk - days to be negotiated (6 hrs/day; 24 hrs/wk)

Salary Level, Range or Hourly Rate:   School Officer Level 3 - $27.65 per hour

Employment Conditions:   Diocesan Catholic Education Employing Authorities in Queensland Single Interest Agreement 2015-2019


This position involves working with children.  The appointment of successful applicants will be subject to satisfactory employment screening for child related employment in accordance with the law.
