Job overview

Teacher of Science

We are seeking to appoint a teacher of Science for a unique opportunity to work in a hospital-based school for 12 young people aged 11-17 with eating disorders.

You will be someone who is passionate and highly motivated to achieve the best outcomes for the young people who join the school and help to create an outstanding centre of education.

The successful candidate will have responsibility for developing the Science Curriculum, resourcing your subject area and actively seeking opportunities for our young people to engage in creative projects.  We are restricted in the access to the same materials you would enjoy in mainstream so a creative approach to embedding practical into lessons would be strongly encouraged and supported. Many students have missed this important aspect of Science through Covid lock down and previous hospital admissions.

If you are looking for a new challenge and are committed to making a difference for young people, then this opportunity could be for you! You will need to be flexible, compassionate, patient and have a healthy sense of humour. You will be working in a small team of 6 subject specialists within the school and well supported by the wider Elysium healthcare hospital community.

This is a part time post initially for two days a week (15 hours)

Salary: Dependent on skills, qualifications and experience

Start date: Ideally ASAP, May half term or Sept for the right candidate

We offer:

• The opportunity to contribute towards a personalised curriculum that meets the needs of the individual learner

• Standard school holiday entitlement

• Free onsite meals

• Wellbeing support and activities

• Career development and training

The ideal candidate:

• Has QTS & PGCE and previous experience of working with young people in a secondary school setting

• Has experience planning and delivering an outstanding curriculum at KS3, KS4 and potentially A-Level

• Has experience of teaching Chemistry, Biology and Physics GCSE.

• Has excellent literacy, numeracy and ICT skills

• Has the ability to use their initiative to support the learning needs of all young people and work well as part of a team

• Has good behaviour management skills but above all patience. Flexibility is a requisite in this role.

• Has hobbies / interests / skills that contribute to a wide curriculum offer

• Is confident, caring and patient

• Is interested in working with professionals from other clinical and non-clinical disciplines

• Is committed to on-going training and development

  • Understands there will be times you are covering other subjects. Work is provided through home school and support within the team.
  • Open to teaching a second subject.
