Age range: 11 - 18

Strive, Succeed, Surpass

If you have a passion for demonstrating the wonders of science to young people, and a commitment to work with all ages and abilities, we would like to meet you.

This is an excellent opportunity for a bright and innovative individual to join our friendly and supportive Science department. We are determined to improve outcomes and to embed a love of all things scientific with all our young people.

Caterham High is on a journey to excellence. If you would like to join us, working in an exciting period of development and change, then we would like to hear from you.

We strive to achieve aspirational outcomes and provision for our children and young people, set within a culture of inclusion and high expectations.

Our KS4 results improved substantially in 2019 with a significant jump in Progress 8. Our 6th Form results remained steady. Ofsted noted (Sept 2018) that there is “energised leadership” and “absolute clarity about what needs to improve”. The report also noted that students’ behaviour is consistently good in lessons and that they are respectful and contribute positively to the school’s work and culture.

Our children study Combined Science or Triple Sciences at GCSE. We have a large Sixth Form and A Level Sciences are popular subjects. Our science results are improving in both Key Stages.

Newly Qualified teachers are welcome to apply. There is strong and valued CPD for all staff, including an excellent programme for NQTs and trainee teachers. We are active participants of the Seven Kings Teaching School Alliance which also provides a wide programme of CPD including a residential for NQTs.

We are a community school that serves a richly diverse area of East London, with many ethnic groups and languages represented. We have good facilities, including sports facilities, and opportunities to teach across the full age range.

Our staff are well known as friendly and welcoming. There are staff activities such as football, badminton and yoga. Staff have free access to our fitness suite and free parking.

We warmly welcome an informal telephone conversation prior to application. You can also visit the website to view information videos about Caterham High.  Visits to the site are by arrangement after the school day - visitors will need to follow our Covid safety protocols.

Are you interested? If so, please contact Debby Venner (HR Manager) for more information - the application pack and form are on our website.

Completed application forms should be e-mailed to D.Venner@ecaterham.net by Monday 28th June 2021 at 10am. However, the school will assess applications immediately on application and reserves the right to interview and appoint a suitable candidate before the closing date.

Interviews will be scheduled over a period of time starting in the week beginning Monday 5th July.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  Offer of a position is subject to receiving satisfactory references and an Enhanced DBS Clearance.

Caterham High has been at the heart of the local community for over 60 years providing an excellent education for all young people that join our thriving institution. We are ambitious for our students, setting high aspirations in all that they do. We aim to ensure that they achieve the best exam results possible, have opportunities to develop their talents and aptitudes, and become confident young people who will step out to meet the challenges of the world today.

We pride ourselves on providing an outstanding learning environment in which all students realise their full potential. As a six form entry school we know our students very well, catering for the needs of the individual and ensuring strong pastoral and academic support. This makes us popular with students and staff alike who thrive on good working relationships and caring attitudes that create a warm, purposeful atmosphere. Our students come from a wide range of backgrounds, with many races, religions, cultures and languages represented.  We celebrate our diversity and welcome the opportunities it gives us to learn from each other.

Our home-school partnerships are very strong.  For students to maximise their potential, it is vital that parents and carers and the school work productively together. We use regular monitoring, target setting and dialogue with students and parents and carers to ensure students make good progress. There are many opportunities, formal and informal, for dialogue, which we strongly welcome.

We have an expanding and responsive curriculum aimed at enhancing choice and opportunity for students as they progress through the school from Year 7 to Year 13.  Our teaching is both innovative and challenging both in content and delivery, and ICT is used throughout the school to bring the curriculum to life and to stimulate and engage students in their learning. We make good use of our facilities (including the astro-turf pitch, pool, fitness suite and dance studio) and ensure that every child can be involved in the enrichment opportunities on offer.

Caterham High is a school with great strengths. Students of all ages are eager to learn and take pride in their school. They are the perfect ambassadors for us.

Please do not hesitate to contact the school if you would like to arrange an appointment to visit.

We thank you for your interest in our School and look forward to hearing from you.

Belinda Chapple

Headteacher
