Smile Education would like to welcome an accomplished KS3 & 4 Science Teacher to apply for a full-time teaching role at one of our prestigious Secondary School located in South West Birmingham. The role will start after the October half term on a temporary basis but for the right candidate, you will be considered for the school’s permanent Science role to start from January 2019.

This Secondary School is for 11 to 18 year old students and enjoys a national profile for high standards at both GCSE and A level and is proud of its broad and flexible curriculum. Ofsted judged the school to be good overall with outstanding features and commended the quality of leadership and teaching. The science department has an established and experienced team and has been described as having a “supportive” and “welcoming” environment. The school is a small and caring community in which each pupil is known and given individual attention.

The science department enjoys being part of an enthusiastic community of learners; high aspirations are actively encouraged and supported. There is a range of support available to pupils where both staff and older pupils provide formal and informal mentoring. The pupils are comfortable taking risks in class and are keen to put themselves forward in class as well as being pro-active in asking questions. Lessons have an academic vibrancy as a result. Colleagues are giving of their time to each other and mutual support is a key ingredient in its successes.

To be considered for this Key stage 3 & 4 science teaching post you must have:

  • UK QTS
  • PGCE secondary science or equivalent science teaching degree
  • Excellent behaviour management experience
  • Extensive subject knowledge
  • Proven strategy planning skills
  • Shown commitment to learning and development of pupils
  • Taught at a consistently good /outstanding level
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with staff, parents and students

Hillcrest School and Sixth Form Centre is a non-selective 11 – 18 girls’ school with approximately 650 students.  Girls are admitted in Years 7-11 (ages 11-16) and both boys and girls are admitted to our mixed Sixth Form Centre. The school is a member of The Oaks Collegiate, a close network of 10 Secondary and 7 Primary Schools in South-West Birmingham.   Hillcrest has well established systems and structures in place to support staff at all stages of their career journey.
