Job Title:              Science Teacher

Location:        Reddish Hall School, Stockport, Greater Manchester

Salary:           £30,000 - £32,000 per annum dependent on experience

Hours:                 37.5 hours per week - Monday to Friday, 8am-4pm

Contract:             Permanent, Term-Time only

About us

Reddish Hall is an Outstanding independent SEMH school based in Stockport, catering for 5-16-year-olds. We accommodate pupils with SEMH requirements, offering a broad and balanced curriculum which can be tailored to individual needs. The school offers a successful, therapeutic approach to re-engage pupils who’ve endured serious difficulties at their previous schools. We are committed to delivering a personalised curriculum, the derivation of which is based on thorough assessment of a pupil’s needs and preferences alongside their strengths and areas for development; pupils are provided with appropriate and challenging pathway.

We provide Education and Care across a number of schools and residential homes nationally. Our specialist SEN provision, coupled with our expertise within residential care means we offer thousands of vulnerable children and young people across the UK a holistic, wraparound care, residential and education service, empowering them with everything they need to flourish.

About the Role

Joining our team of dedicated teachers, you will be responsible for providing high quality teaching of Science, to ensure the effective delivery of the school’s curriculum. The teachers at Reddish Hall School are encouraged to take a creative approach, seeking ways to positively engage with and motivate pupils through lessons that promote learning and raise levels of attainment.

The ideal candidate will successfully set targets for pupil success and be confident in using their knowledge and expertise to monitor progress. Teachers give regular feedback and encourage our young people to take a responsible and conscientious attitude to their own work and study.

Whilst previous experience of working in within a SEMH environment would be desirable, excellent teaching skills and the right motivation, personal qualities and levels of resilience are just as important. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching Science.

Essential Criteria

  • Qualified Teacher Status or equivalent
  • Successful teaching experience of students with special education needs
  • Experience of working with students who display challenging behaviour
  • Ability to use ICT effectively for teaching
  • Knowledge of guidance and requirements around safeguarding children.
  • Knowledge & understanding of the National Curriculum in order for successful planning and delivery
  • The ability to manage challenging behaviour effectively
  • Resilience and perseverance

Reddish Hall School is a co-educational school catering for pupils aged 5-18 with complex educational needs, communication difficulties and challenging behaviour- all of our young people have an Education Health Care Plan. The school accepts pupils with social, emotional and behavioural needs, though they may face additional challenges and diagnoses including ADHD, Asperger’s, SpLD, MLD, OCD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia, Foetal Alcohol Syndrome or a variety of other conditions. Additionally, many of our pupils have serious social issues and very difficult home lives resulting in complex emotional difficulties.

All pupils attending Reddish Hall School have individual needs that have proved too complex to be addressed within a mainstream setting. The school provides effective support and a suitably differentiated curriculum, enabling them to progress and succeed to the best of their ability.
