Job overview

Queen Ethelburga’s is an independent Collegiate of four co-educational schools. Located in North Yorkshire between the towns of York and Harrogate. In our most recent Independent Schools Inspectorate inspection (February 2019), we were rated as outstanding (highest rating) in all areas. Queen Ethelburga’s College and Faculty has been placed first and ninth respectively in the independent secondary schools list for the North of England, by Parent Power – The Sunday Times Schools Guide 2019. The guide identifies the 2,000 highest-achieving schools in the UK, ranked by their recent examination results.

Students join us with a broad range of academic, social and cultural backgrounds. We pride ourselves on being a happy community where students can grow to reach their full potential, both academically and socially. The school actively promotes the professional development of its staff through induction, CPD and career development opportunities. All staff are expected to contribute to the Collegiate’s extra-curricular programme.

We are seeking to appoint a well-qualified, enthusiastic and inspirational teacher of Science, preferably with a Physics specialism, to join our highly successful Science Department. The successful candidate should be able to teach all three science disciplines at Key Stage 3 and 4. An ability to offer Physics at KS5 would be a significant advantage.  Although the post will suit an experienced teacher, we welcome applications from NQTs.

As a thriving day and boarding Collegiate, our facilities are enhanced annually to help ensure that we have everything needed to allow our young people ‘to be the best they can with the gifts that they have’ (our Hill Standard).

Please refer to the Job Description, Person Specification and Supplementary Information for further details.

Applications will be assessed on an on-going basis and interviews will be held at our earliest opportunity, so the interested teachers are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.

Please note that this is a non-residential position with no on-site accommodation being offered.

Principal: Mr Steven Jandrell BA.

All full-time teachers complete 30 directed hours per week, with approximately 23 hours of teaching, and the rest made up of duties, activities and form tutor responsibilities, as required.

The post holder’s responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for whom s/he is responsible, or with whom s/he comes into contact will be to adhere to and ensure compliance with the Collegiate’s Child Protection Policy and Staff Code of Conduct at all times. If, in the course of carrying out the duties of the post the post holder becomes aware of any actual or potential risks to the safety or welfare of children in the school s/he must report any concerns to the Collegiate’s Designated Safeguarding Lead.

Closing Date: 19th June 2019
