Wetherby High School is a forward-thinking school in a semi-rural area of North Leeds.  Our ethos is based upon inclusive and restorative values that we believe best allows every student the opportunity to realise their potential, as recognised in our Ofsted report.

We are now looking to appoint an excellent practitioner to lead and develop the Science SCITT provision at Wetherby High School.

This is a unique opportunity for an excellent science teacher to lead the Leeds SCITT programme, working with schools across Leeds to develop the next generation of science teachers in our schools.

The Leeds SCITT programme is a successful and long-standing provider working in partnership with Leeds Trinity University and some of the most highly regarded school in West Yorkshire.

As the lead tutor for the Science SCITT programme, based at Wetherby High School you will work closely with the SCITT lead tutor, with Leeds University and with other training schools across Leeds to train and mentor budding young professionals.

In addition to the initial training and developing classroom practice, you will co-ordinate placements and mentor trainees through the successful placements across other schools.

You will work with the university and the students for one day a week, will regularly meet with other providers to develop the provision further and will receive high quality training and continuing CPD to ensure the course is delivered to the highest standards.

You will also join the successful science team and continue to develop your own practice, with further opportunities to share good practice across the school and deliver CPD as part of an ambitious programme.

We are an ambitious school and, as our Ofsted report states, "Teachers are passionate" about teaching.  We invite you to join this team and work across the school, city and with the higher education sector to develop science teaching and teachers.  This post will attract ambitious teachers who wish to develop understanding and skills that will prepare them for future roles are senior leaders.

The successful candidate will be a creative, high-achieving practitioner, demonstrating a drive to move teaching forward to give children the best experience.

The dynamic and innovate teacher will be able to demonstrate:

  • A passion for teaching and learning and able to instil this passion in others
  • An ability to mentor students to become successful, creative teachers
  • An understanding of, and commitment to, an inclusive school ethos, working restoratively and ensuring the well-being of the child
  • A successful track record of raising attainment and progress for pupils of all abilities
  • A passion for Science, interested in inspiring pupils and teachers and a wish to join a vibrant, forward-thinking and successful team
  • A commitment to providing a highly effective learning environment and a willingness to positively embrace change, challenge and opportunities.

It is essential that the post holder shares the school ethos which is firmly rooted in a restorative approach and the following values: to 'Know our children well'; to be 'Partners in Learning'; to develop 'Character for Achievement'; to 'Enjoy and Aspire'.  We firmly believe that in order to move forwards we need to be prepared and able to 'do things differently and to do different things'.

We significantly invest in the development and training of all colleagues who are equally happy to share their expertise, skills and knowledge across the organisation.  If you are looking to be stretched and challenged within a positive and creative team and you have a genuine desire to make a positive difference to our children, please submit an application form, covering letter and CV to hr@wetherbyhigh.co.uk, by noon on Friday 18th October 2019.

Interviews will be held week commencing 21st October 2019.

We promote diversity and want a workforce which reflects the population of Leeds.  This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the well-being of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  All successful applications will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring check and satisfactory references.  This school has a privacy statement for job applicants which is published on the school website.
