Help us to build our school!

Surrey Maths School (SuMS) is a specialist 16-19 Maths School opening in Guildford in September 2024 to serve students across the South East, aiming to become a hub of excellence for the teaching of the mathematical sciences.

We are seeking to appoint a motivated and creative science technician to work in a unique environment – a new specialist Maths school for 16–19-year-olds supporting the teaching of Physics and Chemistry A levels. You will ensure the delivery of high-quality laboratory and support services, while providing specialist technical support to the teaching staff to ensure outstanding provision of lessons to generate enthusiasm for the subjects an inspire all students to work to their potential.

The successful candidate will have a background or interest in science although training and support will be provided. You will support the team in lessons through the preparation, delivery and maintenance of equipment and through championing health and safety awareness. Your contribution will ensure that students can maximise their practical time and achieve the best possible progress results. We require an efficient, organised team player with the ability and knowledge to efficiently support the resourcing of practical work within our science curriculum. You should be interested in belonging to a school wide, professional learning community.

This is a unique opportunity to work in an environment where there is real excitement and enthusiasm for the mathematical sciences and where you have the chance to shape the minds of the future as part of a dedicated and supportive team.

At Surrey Maths School you will be part of a small, enthusiastic team working with students who are driven and excited by mathematical sciences. Take a look at our SuMS information pack for prospective staff for more information about the broader school and what you can expect from working with us.

The post holder will be required to work Thursday and Friday for 1 day to 1 1 /2 days over 3 weeks per year.

What we can offer you:

·        A professional and supportive team

·        Training and development – opportunities to take part in a range of training events and ongoing professional development

·        Family friendly employer – working within a team which understands that operational needs can be balanced with family responsibilities
