Hours:      Full- time (average of 40 hours per week) and part-time options available. We will  consider flexible shift patterns.

We are currently looking for Support Workers to join Aurora St Christopher’s in Bristol.

Aurora St Christopher’s supports children and young people aged 5 to 19 years with severe and complex difficulties including those on the autistic spectrum and with physical and sensory needs.

We have one aim, to empower the children and young people to develop and grow in their own unique and inspiring way.

The site in Bristol has recently undergone a multimillion pound redevelopment which has completely modernised the living and learning environment at St Christopher’s. By becoming an Aurora Support Worker, you will be choosing a truly rewarding career and, with the development plans for both Aurora and St Christopher’s, you too could progress to be a manager just like Tom. 

We are looking for people with a passion to positively change the lives of the children young people that we work with. It is essential that you have had some experience either through your personal life or working practice in understanding the needs of children or young adults with learning or physical difficulties. If you do not already have a QCF level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare but believe this role is right for you, then we will support you to develop your career and achieve the relevant qualifications.

In your role you will build trusted relationships which puts the health, safety, development and welfare of young people first, providing physical and emotional support within residential and learning environments and with off-site activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and facilitate learning and independence in order to help the children and young people achieve on-going development and growth
  • Support the maintenance a safe, homely environment which reflects the ages and interests of the children and young people.
  • Assist the Education team in creating an environment which supports learning through school and into the home
  • Contribute to planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes and plans
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with all including parents, guardians, social workers and other professionals and agencies as required

Requirements of the role:

  • Experience of children or adults with learning or physical difficulties is required. This could be from a previous job or from your own personal experiences with family or friends with special educational needs
  • Level 3 Diploma in Childcare or equivalent is desirable
  • Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection
  • Experience of working with a range of approaches to manage challenging behaviours is advantageous
  • Experience working within support/care role is desirable
  • Experience and/or understanding of working within a multi-cultural, inclusive setting
  • Knowledge of basic First Aid
