We are looking for a second-in-charge of the Art Department in a school which offers outstanding opportunities for professional development. Twyford Church of England High School, an Ofsted outstanding school with a thriving Sixth Form, is one of four Twyford Trust schools, and the new post-holder will be joining us at a time of growth. The Art Department at Twyford School offers a diverse programme of creative study from KS3 – KS5. At KS3 Art is taught to all students in Years 7 and 8. The students learn skills in the formal elements, and experience with a range of media. In Year 9 students choose electives designed to give them a more diverse experience in preparation for GCSE and A Level. In the Creative Faculty, these electives are Graphics and Fine Art. Art is popular at KS4 in both Graphics and Fine Art. At A Level students are able to combine Fine Art with Graphics and Photography; creative A Levels are popular and many students move on to further creative study or work. We have a history of excellent KS5 results and many students progressing to Art, Design or Photography based Foundation or degree courses.
Student numbers: At GSCE we have 47 year 11 students taking Art or Graphics and 57 year 10 students. At A Level we have a large intake of pupils in Photography, Fine Art and Graphics. Our current year 13 classes are Art 23 Graphics 15 Photography 39.
Results 2017:
Fine Art GCSE: A*-C 80%
Graphic GCSE: A*-C 76%
Fine Art A level: A *-B 87.5% A-C 100%
Graphics A level: A*-B 66.7% A-C 100%
Photography: A-C 100%
The Art, Photography, Graphics and Media Department is made up of five members of staff each with a different specialism. The post will allow the suitable candidate to teach within the Fine Art and / or Graphics department from KS3 – KS5, and s/he will have experience of teaching at GCSE level. The ideal candidate would also be willing to participate and support the department’s extra-curricular programme running various classes such as KS3 Art Club, supporting the A level Art TAP programme (with lectures and portfolio classes for A level students) plus GCSE catch up classes at lunch times or after school.

The successful candidate will have:
• A good degree and Qualified Teacher Status
• Successful teaching experience in a high achieving secondary school
• Ability to teach Art (Painting) to KS5
• Knowledge of the requirements of the National Curriculum
• An understanding of recent curriculum / learning developments
• An understanding of the strategies required to motivate and enthuse all students across the ability range as part of a whole school approach to raising achievement
• An understanding of the processes and techniques required to assess, record and report students’ learning effectively
• Ability to be reflective and driven towards self-improvement

Twyford CE High School is the founding school of the Twyford CE Academies Trust, the highest performing Trust in the UK. It has specialisms in Music and Modern Foreign Languages and a reputation for excellence which has made it heavily oversubscribed.
