Coppice Performing Arts School is a popular and oversubscribed school of around 950 students on the outskirts of Wolverhampton. Our continuous whole school focus on raising standards saw improvement in 2017 with whole school attainment (46) and progress 8 (-0.05) meeting national average.  In the 6th Form, overall achievement has been consistently above national average with 100% pass rate at A2 / Level 3 for 3 out of the last 5 years.  All staff at Coppice work with total commitment to enable students to achieve successful outcomes thus improving their future life opportunities.

At Coppice, we are proud of our fully inclusive ethos where all students are encouraged to participate in the full range of curricular and extracurricular activities.  We currently have around 30 students with An EHCP / statement of special educational needs and a number of students with physical disabilities including wheelchair users.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced, enthusiastic and forward thinking Mathematician who is committed to raising standards for students of all abilities from Key Stage 3 to A Level.  This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced practitioner with the ambition to progress to head of department and senior leadership in the future.  Training and support at Coppice is extensive and experienced practitioners have the opportunity to develop their skills to support their professional ambitions.  For an exceptional candidate we can offer additional whole school responsibility to sit alongside the department role, which will provide wider professional development.

The Maths department is fully staffed with specialist teachers including additional TLR holders with specific areas of responsibility and graduate maths mentors.  In the 6th Form the department delivers A Level Maths as well as Re-sit GCSE Maths.  Results in Year 11 GCSE Maths in 2017 showed good attainment with GCSE Maths A* - C at 70% and “Basics measure of English and Maths“at 62% in 2016; in 2017 Grade 4+ Mathematics = 66% and “Basics measure of English and maths 4+” was 58%.

You will be joining a school with exceptional leaning environments and resources; Coppice was part of the Wolverhampton Phase 1 BSF programme and we completed our £17m refurbishment in 2013.  All departments in the school benefit from significant ICT investment to provide state-of-the art resources for learning.  Maths is housed in a specialist suite of rooms within the Discovery Zone, which includes flexible classrooms, open learning spaces, interactive white boards in all learning spaces, computer and laptop provision.

Coppice is an inclusive school and the successful candidate will be committed to providing learning to meet the needs of all abilities.  In addition, you will be fully committed to your own professional development, and that of others.

Your application should also consist of a letter of not more than 2 sides of A4 outlining your experiences to date, your personal impact on raising standards and how you promote effective teaching and learning of mathematics that will enable every student to achieve their personal best regardless of their starting point.

We are keen to attract, and develop, outstanding teachers with high standards who will contribute to the continued improvement in attainment and standards at Coppice.

Informal visits are welcomed.

Coppice Performing Arts School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  The successful applicant will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
