Esher High School is an oversubscribed and ambitious school. We have enjoyed substantial investment in our facilities recently, which has improved the learning environment across the School.
We are seeking to appoint a Second in RE who is a creative, passionate teacher of RE ideally with experience of teaching PSHE. Someone with a creative flare to design and produce resources and schemes of work based on the top 6 world religions, which will engage our students, educating them about faith whilst contextualising religion in the world today.
The candidate will have experience in teaching GCSE RE, which engages and stretches all students to explore, question and builds on the Church of England’s values of hope, wisdom community and dignity. Experience of running extra-curricular clubs is desirable, as the department historically have run the debating club and the school newspaper. RE, PSHE and Citizenship is going through a transition period at EHS where we are revamping and modernising the curriculum to meet the needs of our students, equipping them with skills and knowledge to be active humanitarians who strive for excellence and are prepared to enter the world when they leave us.
The RE department is at the core of the school providing the students with essential information about the world and how they fit in to this. Working with other departments, feeder schools, the local church, and our Chaplain will be fundamental to the success of the department. The successful candidate will work with a team of specialist and non-specialist’s teachers who currently deliver RE/PSHE/Citizenship three times a fortnight to both KS3 and 4.
In post as second in department, you have the scope to lead on aspects of the department and depending on experience; this could be the KS4 GCSE RE, which will be an option subject, or the KS3 RE units of work. This will be decided based on the candidates and experience.
