Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join (and potentially lead) a department of experienced teachers and help take the International Baccalaureate curriculum forward in Middle Years Programme Language and Literature as well as possibly offer Diploma Programme English courses. The successful candidate would join a well-established international school in London with high standards of teaching and learning and excellent opportunities for professional development. Dwight School London is part of a growing and successful group of schools in New York, Seoul, Shanghai, London and Dubai.

Dwight School London is an IB World School offering the Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma programmes. The Dwight School community has a rich diversity of cultures, nationalities and experiences, with over 50 nationalities represented and over 40 languages spoken. We are a small, very friendly and supportive community with high aspirations for our students, and high expectations of our staff.

After a recent period of consolidation, stability and progress, Dwight London Upper School, under a a new Senior Leadership Team, is taking the school forward in its mission to prepare young people to become leaders in the world, thrive in a curriculum rooted in our three educational pillars of personalised learning, a commitment to community and global vision. To join the school at this stage is an exciting opportunity to make changes and build on solid foundations.

The department has been under experienced and stable leadership for some time and the post-holder will join an established team alongside two other English teachers. The team are reviewing and refreshing the MYP curriculum to continue to prepare students for our established and successful Diploma Programme. If appointed, and suitably qualified, the candidate would also be able to apply for the role of Subject Leader, which attracts an extra stipend and time allowance. The subject leader will lead in English but also coordinate the full range of mother tongue languages followed in Dwight including Japanese, Spanish, French and some tutored lesser spoken languages. The willingness to teach other subjects would be an advantage.

We will expect the post holder to be an outstanding educator who can lead by example and has a willingness to innovate. An international outlook is essential and experience of the IB programmes and international education will be a distinct advantage. Dwight School London is a values driven organisation and the successful candidate will have to demonstrate an understanding of and a commitment to student-led, inquiry-based learning and the attributes of the IB learner profile.

In return you will have opportunities for professional development, the support of a resourceful, experienced and dedicated line-manager, friendly and helpful colleagues, a supportive parent body, genuinely fantastic students and all the advantages of a vibrant, diverse and welcoming international community.

Within the application in your supporting statement outline how your skills and experience meet the job description and person specification. The deadline for applications is Friday, 15th June but early applications are encouraged as we may appoint before the deadline if the right candidate is found. We welcome new qualified applicants.
