Job overview

Situated in the beautiful Fontainebleau area, 45 minutes from Paris, the Anglophone Section is a highly successful and popular International Section providing a dynamic and bicultural curriculum through the medium of English within the French State Education system.

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced English specialist to deliver our Language and Literature curriculum to students aged 11 to 18 years. This is an exciting opportunity to join our current staff of 14 teachers in this unique international school environment.

The successful candidate will be a native level English-speaking graduate who possesses a relevant teaching qualification from an English-speaking country (e.g. PGCE). Prior teaching experience of the subject (Key stages 3, 4 and post-16) in an anglophone country is essential. A working knowledge of French would be an advantage, as would experience and a desire to undertake extra-curricular activities.

About The Anglophone Section of Fontainebleau

The Anglophone Section of Fontainebleau is a co-educational independent all-through school based in Fontainebleau in France.

The Anglophone Section of Fontainebleau was created in 1979 by official decree of the French Ministry of Education. It was one of the very first international sections created by the Ministry and has over 420 students on roll, representing more than 22 different nationalities. The Anglophone Section prepares students for IGCSEs in English and English Literature, and for the “International” portion of the OIB (Option International du Baccalauréat) exams. The French state system prepares them for the remaining subjects that make up the OIB exams. The subjects themselves depend on the stream chosen – Scientific, Economic and Social, or Literature.

Values and vision

The Anglophone Section of Fontainebleau believes developing critical thinking skills by challenging its students to resolve problems from several different cultural perspectives is a key part of its educational focus. Students are taught to develop the self-confidence and adaptability needed to be able to think on their feet and challenge assumptions in a multicultural environment. The school also attempts to offer several cultural activities including drama, music and school trips. It also seeks to provide what it considers to be a safe, healthy, outdoor setting for its pupils. The school is also dedicated to using small class sizes to encourage more one-to-one learning, enabling teachers to better take into account students’ differing abilities.
