 Meadowcroft is an independent specialist day school for boys and girls aged from 5 to 19, catering for children with a wide range of needs in 3 sites across Wakefield. About the Role

We now have an opportunity for a SEN Coordinator to cover maternity leave. 

The ideal candidate will take on the day to day responsibility in the team to provide guidance of SEN teaching to maintain and increase the quality of teaching.  The SEN coordinator will be confident designing, planning and delivering outstanding PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) lessons.

All teachers at Meadowcroft are encouraged to take a creative approach, seeking ways to positively engage with and motivate pupils through lessons that promote learning and raise levels of attainment.

Who are we looking for?

No two days are the same at Meadowcroft so we want staff who can work at pace to turn ‘can’t do’ into ‘want to’ and are motivated by working with children with complex needs. The ideal candidate will enjoy working with children in a calm and engaging demeanour, whilst being resilient using an innovative style of teaching motivated by your belief that every child can achieve and reach their potential.

Working with the Deputy Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team, you will be responsible for organising and running the EHCP reviews for all pupils, for delivering PSHE lessons and for developing the staff team’s understanding of SEN and how to get the most for our pupils.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Monitor the quality of SEN support by implementing effective systems to measure and identify the needs of the students.
  • Regularly evaluate the needs of the students and implement systems to achieve positive outcomes
  • Where directed, to work with the external specialists and professionals
  • To organise the schedule of Education Health Care Plans for all pupils.
  • To Co-ordinate the PSHE provision across the school, including developing schemes of work, deliver the curriculum at at least one of the sites and manage teachers in their delivery of PSHE.
  • Work with students, leaders, class teachers to ensure realistic expectations of behaviour and achievement is set for the students.
  • Oversee maintain, and monitor the quality of IEPs (Individual Education Plans) and other support plans
  • Develop and implement systems for staff to monitor and record progress made by students with SEN
  • Review student plans half termly with parents, teachers, students and agree new targets where required.
  • To assist in the implementation of Behaviour Management systems in school so that effective learning can take place.
  • Work within an established behaviour management and physical intervention policy to anticipate and manage behaviour constructively, promoting self-control and independence.

Essential Criteria

  • Must be educated to degree level or be of Qualified Teacher Status
  • Ability to use ICT effectively
  • The ability to manage challenging behaviour effectively
  • Demonstrable experience of working with children and young people in a classroom or other working environment
  • Experience of writing reports and maintaining records
  • Resillence
