Job overview

The positive impact you can have on a child’s life is most likely the reason you got into teaching in the first place. At Eagle House School in Mitcham, that impact will be greater than you could have imagined.

Eagle House School provides outstanding schooling for Autistic young people with a range of complex educational needs. We like to foster a safe, supportive environment where children can grow in confidence and thrive. Each young person’s set of needs requires a unique approach. Our teachers are there to channel their individual capabilities into academic success, as part of a holistic and uniquely attentive educational strategy – and all of this from a setting that is truly inspiring to both pupils and teachers.

Our school building dates back to the 18th century and sits in beautiful surroundings including two adventure playgrounds. Add to the fact that we’ve installed amazing new learning spaces, therapy rooms and a great supporting team and it all adds up to a truly uplifting teaching environment.

Be Inspired

This is going to be an inspiring role for you, which is what makes it so exciting. It’s all about understanding what each child is particularly interested in and how they learn and are motivated. Then channelling those factors into the way you teach so that every pupil gets the most out of them. We are all passionate about seeing our children succeed, seeing their courage and confidence grow, so that they can lift their heads up high – it’s why we do what we do.

Everything we do is built on the foundation of our relationships with our children. Each child is at the center of our holistic approach, to give them the very best chance of success in life.  The support you’ll receive in building those relationships is what separates Eagle House Group from everyday schooling. It’s about much more than instilling pupils with the knowledge to get them ahead - your impact on their moral, emotional and even spiritual development will be just as profound. By inspiring and engaging our young people, you’ll facilitate the kind of learning that continues after the end of the school day and stays with them throughout life.

You’ll be working with children from 4 to 11 years old. It will be challenging and rewarding in equal measure, but whether you’ve given a particularly inspiring lesson or helped a child with their emotional development, you can expect to take home a sense of having done something amazing every single day. As all teachers know, some of those days may be harder than others but, at Eagle House School Mitcham, you’re never alone. You’ll work as part of a supportive, caring team who make real connections with the children.  You’ll work with other teachers across the school and Group as well as with our in-house psychologists and therapy professionals. All part of something bigger, pulling together to create the best possible outcomes for our children.

Be you

We’re currently looking for  Class Teachers with a vision to join our teaching team. The kind of people who wants to make a difference and knows the pathway that will allow them to do so. Someone who also wants to be part of the conversation when it comes to group decisions on how we, as a Group, best meet the needs of each child with regard to training, support and annual reviews.

Aware of the standards that Ofsted look out for and always conscious to exceed them, you’ll be the kind of teacher who is never anything but engaged and engaging. What’s more, you’ll be excited by the prospect of our small class sizes and will seize upon this as an opportunity to tailor learning to individuals and build stronger, more insightful teacher/pupil relationships. Empathetic, compassionate and creative, you’ll understand that our pupils’ journeys aren’t necessarily linear. If you haven’t worked in SEN before, but are enthusiastic and motivated to make the move, we’ll give you all the additional training and support you require.

Be Rewarded

There are also some outstanding rewards – in fact, our salary and benefits package is one of the best in the sector. It includes:

  • A highly competitive salary
  • Full school holidays
  • Teacher pension scheme
  • Life insurance cover
  • An inclusive wellbeing programme designed by our in-school Wellbeing Advisor, from personalised nutrition plans to joining our own Running Club
  • A comprehensive, market-leading induction and ongoing training
  • Extensive Group staff benefits, such as a Westfield Health Plan/Employee Assistance programme and a Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Free DBS Enhanced checks for all new employees
  • Talent programmes for the next step of your teaching career
