The British International School, Riyadh caters for students aged 3-18. 50% of students are British but over 50 nationalities are represented within the student body. The school is accredited by the Council of British International Schools (COBIS) and the Council of International Schools (CIS). The recent British School overseas inspection described the BIS curriculum as “outstanding” and states that “students demonstrate outstanding attitudes, behaviour and personal development. We are seeking to appoint an experienced SENCo to continue the development of SEN provision within the school and to join our Learning Support team which operates within the Student Services department. BISR Learning Support staff are a highly committed team of SEN teachers and Learning Support Assistants.
The candidate should be an outstanding classroom practitioner able to provide support and guidance to teaching staff and parents.
Candidates should hold a recognised qualification in SEN and have an understanding of the challenges in dealing with SEN issues in a Middle East context.
The successful candidate will:
• be a UK qualified teacher or have qualifications recognised in the UK through the NARIC process;
• very competently fulfil all Teachers’ Standards as published by the Department of Education in 2012;
• put students at the heart of the education process;
• fully support the Mission and ethos of the school;
• commit enthusiastically to the school’s enrichment program including leading extra-curricular and inter-house activities;
• be able to use ICT as an effective teaching tool;
• believe in the values of international and interculturalism in an educational context;
• have experience as SENCo or SEN teacher
• have qualifications that are SENCo specific
• work collaboratively with the Director of Student Services and be an integral member of the Student Services team;
• lead Learning Support staff in developing their knowledge and expertise in working with SEN children;
• motivate, support and line manage the work of learning support assistants working with SEN children;
• be an excellent communicator and demonstrate the ability to work within and to be an integral part of a Student Services team;
• exhibit outstanding management and organisational skills and experience of leading or managing other staff;
• demonstrate the necessary communication skills to liaise with parents and a variety of external agencies;
• have qualifications and experience in assessing pupils referred to the Learning Support team:
• use student data to drive progress and improve the existing provision.
