Job overview

Are you resilient, with a positive ethos and calm and proactive approach?  Are you committed to raising standards and engaging children and young people with special educational needs?  If so, join our dynamic, creative and supportive staff team in this successful and well established  PRU, which provides full-time provision for students unable to access mainstream school for a variety of reasons including challenging emotional, social and medical needs.

The Pavilion is seeking a well-qualified and enthusiastic Coordinator of Special Educational Needs to act as the SENCO and to coordinate Student Support in the various settings of our Pupil Referral Unit.

The Pavilion provides education for children and young people who are unable to remain in mainstream school due to social, emotional and medical needs. The provision also runs respite programmes for students who are deemed to be close to permanent exclusion from their mainstream secondary school. These programmes vary in length dependant on the needs of the student and the referring school.

“The quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good. Typically, learning engages pupils and helps them to achieve.” (Ofsted 2017)

The Pavilion has four main settings at Whetstone, Mead way, Church Farm and Barnet Hospital but also uses local libraries for outreach teaching and some students are educated in local alternative provisions. There is high student mobility across at all times.

The successful appointee will lead a team of experienced teaching assistants, and work in close collaboration with a number of external agencies including Educational Psychologists and CAMHs.
