Job overview

We are looking for a teacher to lead and manage provision for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities at Millbank Academy, including within our Additionally Resourced Provision for children with autism as it expands into its new home.

The Future Academies Trust is one of the country’s leading academy trusts; it was established with the intention of improving the life chances of children through an education that is built on the importance of knowledge, teachers who are experts in their subject, and an unwavering focus on raising aspirations for all. Our family of schools provide an exciting educational environment for students of all abilities, including students with complex Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. The Trust hosts 3 Additionally Resourced Provisions, including the Windmill at Millbank Academy, and prides itself on making its mainstream classrooms both aspirational and inclusive.

Millbank Academy is an OFSTED Outstanding school with an above-average percentage of children with EHCPs on its roll. In addition to this, it is the home of the Windmill, an Additionally Resourced Provision for students with a diagnosis of Autism.

If your application is successful, you will be leading a diverse team that includes a Speech and Language Therapist, a Deputy SENDCO, an HLTA and a team of Teaching Assistants. Educational Psychology is bought in to support with our understanding of students with complex needs.

If successful, you will be joining at an exciting time for the school in terms of its SEND provision. During the next academic year, the Windmill provision will increase from 10 places to 20, with the opening of brand new, purpose-built classrooms and facilities on-site.

In the first year of the role, you would work as the SENDCO while also providing direct leadership for the teachers and TAs in the Windmill. From September 2022, the SENDCO will hand over direct leadership of the Windmill to a Lead Teacher.

The ideal candidate will have a desire to ensure that students with a variety of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) make outstanding progress in all lessons, especially students who have a diagnosis of autism. In particular, the post will appeal to a teacher with a passion for leadership, someone who is organised and efficient and who can implement the Trust’s vision for Inclusion as well as national changes in SEND practice.

Please complete your application online by Friday 23rd April.

The salary for the role will be competitive with similar roles in other schools and will be paid on the inner London scale.
